i hate arai i hate it hate my lid beyond words imaginable frigging hate the absolutely living sh!t out of my poxy frigging lid.

more irritated than words can tell so frigging annoyed want to punch a friggin hole in the wall right now and launch my lid so friggin far never to be seen again..
..so i get up wonderful lovely morning as they always are following on from a wonderful lovely night at Soho finally got bike working again after a catalogue of problems - and now sun is out even more lovely a day ..... and wave my hot man off to work and think hmmm its a gorgeous day a little ride out me thinks later on to meet up with said hot man for lunch lovely RIDE on my bike i thought yeah sunny day yes why not lovely day too lovely not to be out on my new bike me thinks ..
so i brake out the gorgeous new visor that above hot man got me ages ago .. and in TEN friggin years of riding my bike i have not ONCE ever ever ever been able to either take off or put on the new visor NOT EVER in TEN years - utterly pathetic on my part i know but just cannot do it for love nor money posy stupid heap of sh!t lid. I have tried and tried and tried - christ even caz tried once and broke it through no fault of her own coz ARAI LIDS ARE USELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but i thinks NO you can do this Verna -the sun is out, you are a 34 year old woman who CAN do this - so i clean BOTH visors up as they were crusty as hell which entailed taking the clear one OFF.... then made the blue one looking lovely bit of bob smith or bob heath whatever its called and everyone happy shining OFF the lid ready to be put ON the lid......

NO NO NO NO NO
can i do it ???? will it go on ????? NO NO NO NO NO NO NOT A FRIGGIN HOPE IN HE££ no it wouldn't just go back on would it ?? oh no not at all tried and tried every conceivable possible imaginable way of getting the ruddy thing back on but NO of course not.
Sunny day / verna wanting to ride .. hmm lets conspire to ensure this does NOT happen by making sure that little miss arai visor will not do anything she is supposed to do.

Wonderful. Great. Fantastic
Never have I been more vexed I have just killed a wasp in the most inhumane way possible and completely enjoyed it too !!!!!!! vexometre is totally off the reader i have actually got tears pouring down my face out of pure and utter rage which is also utterly pathetic too and now no working lid to be able to use. gorgeous bike sat there gorgeous weather no lid.:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:eek::eek::eek::eek:: eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad:: mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Arai visor mechanisms are terrible. They are the reason when my lid gets replaced it won't be replaced by another Aria. Probably.

The side pods can be refitted really easily, they just push back on unless one of the tiny little latches has snapped. I broke my wife's helmet this way when trying to change a visor. Probably not what you want to hear! (they can be replaced)

Another video (you tube is ace, some bugger else does the work for you! In this case its a BCF member) This is a lid servicing video so it includes sidepod and visor removal and replacement. Might help, but I would go for a walk first to bring your heartrate back down into double figures!

I don't see what the problem is, Arai visors are a doddle to change, that's why they are designed the way they are. If you do it correctly the sidepods don't ping off and it takes seconds to do. Taking them off looks brutal and sounds like something is breaking, but in 10 years of owning Arais with the later type visors I've never broken anything on the visor mechs.

You have to start the whole proceedure with the visor past the point it normally opens to, and roll the ends of the visor into the mechs so the cut-outs seat fully, then roll the front of the visor downwards while keeping upward pressure on the ends so they stay seated. Get it right and you'll hear a loud click as the visor locates. I find it easiest to do it sitting down with the helmet on my lap with the visor aperture facing away from me and the back of the lid against my belly.

Surely there's a bike shop locally who can put the visor on for you and show you how to do it properly.

i feel your pain.
and my old helmet, an arai, subsequently got smashed through a door and then, after the door bashing, was placed into a "Council collected waste recepticle"

just put it in a cupboard and have a nice cold drink :)

I've never had an Arai lid as they don't seem to fit my head properly so cant really comment on the visor but my Shoei is an absolute doddle to change takes just a few seconds ;):smt016

Oh and Verna, when I first got my KBC lid I used to have a hell of a job trying to change visors as I tend to bite my nails and it's got that irritating latch and spring mechanism...YC was doing it for some time...then one day I persevered and bam just about managed it. It's still a pain but I know I can do it so makes it a bit easier.

30 seconds? That's twice what it should take.

I just videoed me swopping from black to clear visors.. total time of the video is 19 secs and 3 seconds of that was walking to and from the camera.

It's so bloody easy, I really don't see what the fuss is all about. I've had 5 or 6 Arais and never had any problems with them, aside from breaking the top vent on my Chaser when it clouted a door frame while I was walking with it in my hand.

+1 easy peasy, and MZ, :smt075

When I bought my Arai the girl in Hein Gericke was very patient in ensuring I knew exactly how to do it before i left the shop, so now it's usually me doing mine and Jeff's!!

Same here, I've had six or seven of the more recent Arai lids with the clip on/off visors and I've never broken anything when changing a visor.

Verna: If you don't want yours anymore can I have it? :D

All the Shoei owners: Try changing the visor when you're wearing the lid, then realise the Arai sytem is superior.

Why would I want to change the visor while wearing the lid?

My old Shark helmet was a pain to change the visor, 2 stupid little plastic screws on each side. My roof helmet was almost as bad.

.

Makes swopping from black to clear very easy without removing your lid. It can be done in seconds and you're on your way again.

Vern, which sidepod broke?

Was it the same side as the one that I broke for you when showing you "how easy it is" to change?

If not, then that's good - it means you have a spare sidepod ready to be fitted.

I change my Arai visor twice a day between clear for morning/evening riding and dark for late morning/early afternoon riding. Never had an issue, not once... Done it with both my Condor and my Chaser no issues...
