So I'm interested in buying a 650. I test rode one I absolutely LOVED, it was a 2000 with 17k, and he turned down my offer, so I'm on the path for a new one. As a preface, I don't mind carbs over FI, I find carbs interesting and don't mind tearing them down. I do like the look of the pre 03 frame. So here's some ones I'm looking into :

- Pros : FI, no mods.
- Cons : Not a big fan of the yellow, missing front fender, missing triangle pieces below seat, has been down.

- Pros : I like the color, in good condition, low miles, aftermarket shock and exhaust.
-Cons : Okay....I called him and asked him why he replaced all the body work. He stated and I quote "In 2007 the body work had normal wear and tear, scratches, scuffs etc. and since they stop manufacturing body work and stocking it on the shelves at the 10 year mark I went ahead and replaced the body work instead of re-painting etc. I bought the bike from a friend who installed the yoshi exhaust and suspension, I bought it for $1500 and put $300 in so looking for about $2000" I'm not sure how I feel about this.....he sounded confident and legit....what's your take?

- Pros : Color, mods, can probably get pretty cheap
- Cons : Has a mechanical issue (most likely simple though...i'd assume)

So...I need some advice, which of these sounds like the best deal to you, which would you recommend?

moreover if there's anyone here in the VA/NC/MD/PA area with a 650 for sale in the $2500 price range, lemme know!

Thanks,

Eric

The SVRIDER (http://forum.svrider.com/) forum would probably give better results if you haven't already signed up.

FWIW the middle one sounds good. The cost of complete new bodywork would probably have been close to the value of the bike even in 2007 which is a bit suspicious but then again the owner has also fitted one of the most expensive exhaust systems and one of the best rear shocks available so clearly hasn't spared money on it. Certainly worth a look IMO.
