View Full Version : Micro Scratches on the fairing

My bike spent the winter under a cover, and when I have taken it out all the black plastics look to be covered in micro scratches. The sort that you can't see unless the light catches it. When it does it looks like it has been polished with a brillo pad. Obviously made worse because the bike is black.
The question I have is there any product / Micro polish etc that I can use to get these out. I have tried T-Cut before and it is far far too abrasive and just creates similar scratches.
Help.

Looks exactly what I need. Question is it OK for bikes?
Have you used it before?

farecla is your friend.
Usually a bit of rub with Tcut and a good polish with something such as Autoglym super resin polish does the job.
Shiny shiny is my forte :)
Have you used a good quality polsih after using the tcut?

Yes T-Cut has made a bit of a dogs dinner of it all.
Some mild polish and apply some Carnauba Wax and will look better than when you bought it ... eBay Link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Wax-Shop-100%25-Pure-Yellow-Carnauba-Wax-20oz_W0QQitemZ330398013375QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=22 5188892263&rvr_id=225188892263&cguid=3d46e51112e0a47a2f2198a1ffdbdc6a#ht_2321wt_1 141)

ive used some very very fine polish off ebay that was originally intended for buffing CD/DVD's makes a lovely job on laquer scratches.

Trouble is, whatever cutting compound you use, it will still make scratches, just finer ones.
The only way is with a mop polisher imo.
Get yourself a halogen light Dan and shine at your bodywork, see how many swirls and scratches it will have.
Ive bought a polisher on my mates recommendation as he does this stuff on top end cars for a living.
There is no subsitute when youve seen a finish like a polisher does it.

Isn't it phenomenally expensive though?

That Poorboys SSR2is very good stuff, as is the Poorboys black hole. You use the SSR2 to flatten the surface of the paint/laquer then the black hole masks them even further.
My Tiger needed some TLC after winter use, and these products are exactly what I used.
DOn't forget some good wax, a polish is abrasive in itself, so make sure you get wax, then Poorboys EXP sealant put a rock har coat on the top that lasts for months.

Wow that poorboys stuff is amazing. Used the SSR 2.5, then the black hole and finished off with Carnauba wax. It looks better than the day I picked it up. Not a micro scratch in sight.

Turtlewax Colour magic (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?srch=colour+magic+black&x=0&y=0&action=search&storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&langId=-1)or any other Urethane based polish.
I use Kizz Clear (http://www.soft99.co.jp/en/products/detail/4/073) from japan and it takes minutes to do the full bike. Wipe on, polish off. (this is the best of the best)
Kizz Clear review here... (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=188858)
The urethane fills in all the scratches.
Edit: I bought this for a Black Audi with Micro scratches. An hour and the whole car was mirror finish.
