View Full Version : Throttle stuck on front carb
Hi all,
has been a while since I have posted as my bike has been off the road.
I had been going out and running it every couple of weeks but typically now I want to get it out, MOT'd and on the road I hit a problem.
When I got it out the throttle is jammed up good and proper - I have had a good look and the cables are free and running fine, I have taken off the "front to back" carb linking rod and the rear throttle is nice and free.....
So not surprisingly the difficult to get to front carb is the problem!
Looking in detail at the front carb it appears the axle running through the carb is free on the side of the throttle cables but jammed on the other side.
Before I mess around too much I have given the outside a good soaking of WD40 to try and release it but so far no luck.
I am guessing the next step would be to take the carbs off but before I do that any advice is greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Mike
Finally got around to sorting this today.
1. Throttle cables off carb
2. Throttle position sensor / Carb heaters disconnected
3. found that choke plugger screws were made of butter
3.5 disconnected choke cable at handlebar and fedback as much as possible
4. Fuel / Vacuum pipes off
5. carbs lifted and positioned next to bike (still connected to bike by choke cable)
6. carbs drained
7. Front / rear carb linkage off
8. Front carb confirmed jammed solid.
9. Throttle cable linkage plate / spring etc off
10 Butterfly valve plate screws removed
11. Butterfly valve plate removed (eventually)
12. Butterfly valve axle tapped out
13. Gunk / cr*p and dirt cleaned out of axle hole and off axle
14. all parts cleaned with carb cleaner
15. reassemble
16. Check no parts left over :o
17. turn key
18 Nothing.......
19. Realise clutch sensor connection hanging off!....reconnect
20. turn key........... sweet as a nut! :p:p:p:D
Just need to book MOT now!

Ive said it before, if your going to look after anything on the sv a bit of basic carb cleaning goes a long way on the sv. It aint that hidden away under the tank.

I have this problem, just dug her out the garage after a winter rest and front carb stuck solid. Thanks for the info :-)
good you got it going again.
the screws are not made of cheese you are using the wrong screwdriver. i recently found out (known they were different for years but never knew what they were called) that Japanese motorcycle screw heads are what they call JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) screws and as such require the proper screwdriver. using Philips head screwdrivers just 'cam' out chewing the head as a result.
using a proper JIS screwdriver and no chewed heads in sight :-)
you can usually tell a JIS screwhead as there is a small dot punched into the top.

Whilst you've got the carbs out, take the choke plunger out and give them a clean & lube.
Replace the choke plunger retaining screws with something else. I used allen bolts. Easier with the carb's out
