Just been out on my bike. I was stationary at a junction waiting behind a bus. Once the bus finally pulled out, i began increasing the revs a small amount ready to set off myself.

I suddenly heard a weird buzzing type sound, like some kind of warning coming from around the dash area.

A few hundred metres down the round a pulled over to investigate.

I noticed that when the bike was idling, the oil through the view glass was frothing and bubbling. Is this normal?

I began to think that maybe it's overheating. I let it cool for 20 mins then came straight home.

I was probably sat behind the bus for 20 seconds or so. Maybe the hot fumes from the back of the bus caused it to overheat?

It's the first time i've heard any warning sounds so i'm a little concerned.

Could be that the bike overheated and the radiator fan came on. If there's something stuck in there or one of the fins is broken/bent it could explain the noise. It happened to mine once. You can check the fan blades spin freely by just turning it at the back of the radiator

Yes. There's whirling bits of metal in there - calm and serene it isn't.

It's a hot day - I bet you heard the fan.

You don't say which bike you have, (which would help), if a Pointy then what was the temperature gauge reading? If a Curvy was the 'Too Hot' indicator lit?

Its a curvy.

No, the 'Too Hot' indicator didn't light up (I didn't even know it had one!)

I will check that the fan blades are spinning freely.

The 'help I'm dying light' is on the right hand side of the dash. Small thing it is, got a symbol next to it too IIRC.

yes the too hot light (coolant temp check) is built into the rev counter and it sits right at the end of the rev scale.
