As threatened/promised heres the recipe.
Stolen shamelessly from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (http://www.channel4.com/4food/recipes/chefs/hugh-fearnley-whittingstall/ginger-beer-recipe)
Ingredients
¼ tsp brewer's yeast
225g caster sugar
1½-2 tbsp finely grated fresh root ginger
Juice of 1 lemon
1 good tbsp honey
METHOD
How to make ginger beer
Add the yeast to the bottle. With a funnel, pour in the sugar.
Mix the grated ginger with the lemon juice and honey.
Pour the ginger mixture through the funnel into the bottle. Now fill the bottle about ¾ full with water, put the cap on and shake the bottle until all the sugar is dissolved.
Top up the bottle with water, leaving a 2.5cm gap at the top, to allow for production of gas. Cap the bottle tightly, then place it somewhere warm. Leave it for about 48 hours. Once the bottle feels very hard and has no give in it, your beer should be ready.
Place the bottle in the fridge for several hours to stop the yeast working. Once the beer is thoroughly chilled, pass it through a fine sieve and serve.
Start some tonight and it will be good to go on Sat night.
If you start it now it might even be good to go, if light on the alcohol, for Wedding Day.
Post how it goes, and any recipe changes you would suggest - seen one for adding a chilli to it.
I am currently working out the logistics for making a barrel load of this for the AR - may involve couriers and going up there a day early.

how big a bottle are we talking here? ok from his site, 2ltr bottles.

I'm gonna scale it up to barrel sized brew.
I would guess 2ltr bottles as per your post.

TBH I would just make 2l batches as you need them :) - after 48 hours it tastes like canned ginger beer, after that it gets more brewed.
I think this is one to drink young and fresh

Next time you open a bottle can you give me enough warning to get my waterproofs on over my thin white shirt.

I read that wrong!
Images of a wet tee-shirt competition came to mind...
Cheers SK, I've just bottled up 8 pints of cider and 45 pints of beer, so a new brew is in order!
We had a week in York over Easter, one pub had real, cloudy, brewed, fiery ginger beer. A pint lasts Aaaaaaages!
I'll give it a go and let you know.
Pete ;)

you read that right
My plans changed slightly - thanks to Soulkiss's turbo charged ginger beer we had a rather sticky wet t-shirt contest in Supervox's garden. Tasted nice though!

Been making Ginger beer for a while now inspired by HFW don't brew it in the bottles, buy yourself a proper pressurized container and run it for two weeks, we reckon it was up round 6% from the really feeling it after two pints strength rating.
Also whack some dried chillies in it give it some FIRE!
Had a go at making imitation Crabbies till I worked out how much sugar you had to put in it to get it the same sweetness.
Some advice if you screw it up just mix it with ginger ale it will mask the flavor!

I made it "properly" (created a gingerbeer plant over a week, then leave for a month to brew) and that worked well.
I think th "sticking to it" recipe above is a great starting point for everyone, but yes, everyone should experiment.
Maybe we should have a Turbo Ginger Beer competition at the AR.
Get a pool of volunteers that are not njot taking part but like Ginger Beer, pick 5 at random, they taste-test blind and decide the winner :)

:-$ Don't tell the Mrs.
I put a batch on this morning and plan to leave it bubbling away on the kitchen side.
When Sarah gets back from the shops I'll 'discuss' it with her.
No idea what it will turn out like but if it's any good I'll bring some along.

Wow, total shocker.
when she got back from the shops, Sarah said it was okay!
The moon must be in some sort of astral alignment or something.

Lmao. How are you getting it there?
I'm going to open one next week and if it doesn't make my teeth fall out, I was going to strap a bottle to the bike.

If you followed the recipe in the thread it was ready nearly 2 weeks ago...
Be VERY careful opening it - may be best done outdoors. :)
Oh and if you leave out the Ginger and add about 3 more lemons, you get Alcoholic Lemonade :)

I didn't follow your instructions but it looks to have gone okay.
The bottles are all swollen & now I've had them ion the fridge for a few days they seem to have stopped the 2nd ferment.
I got 'experimental' on it's a$$.
I used some fresh ginger but also mashed up some lemon & ginger tea bags I found lurking at the back of the cupboard, shoved some lemon juice, honey, sugar & yeast.
No idea what it will be like.
If I had not just had the worst bout of the runs I've ever had(not homebrew related I'd like to add), I'd be opening a bottle now to sample.

I'll get it there one of two ways.
I'll arrange for 10 x empty 2l fizzy pop bottles to be there, turn up with pre-mixed, ready to go ingredients, put in bottle, add water, be ready for after the BBQ :)
Failing being able to get the fizzy pop bottles, I'll ratchet-strap the pressure barrel to the back of the bike - put the "dry" ingredients in it, add the water when I get there, be ready got the BBQ :)
I took the pressure barrel full to the Essex AR, this should be easier :p

I was going to put mine in a x2 gallon barrel I have but then put it into bottles.
If it tastes like muck I'll be gutted but at least my Brother will be happy.
He and his mates are usually only too happy to take any 'less than perfect' brew off my hands.
I was concerned about the bottles getting too shaken up but what's life without a little spice.

Thats another reason for not transporting made up - the last stuff had a good fizz - this stuff goes completely radios-rental.
Dont fancy losing half of it up the M1 out the pressure relief valve :)

If mine is any good and I feel brave, I'll bring one/two & hope that releasing the pressure at every opportunity will prevent it from going pop.
Either that or just bring a bottle of whiskey ;)

Tried a bottle last night. Not going to be a vintage year I'm afraid. Needs a lot more Ginger. As such, along with the fear of exploding beverage on the M1, I shall not be taking any of my fizzy alcoholic lemon with a hint of Ginger to the AR. :(

Do what I did 2 years ago a week before the AR.
My proper brew (4 weeks brewing before bottling) came out tasting a lot like beer with a hint of ginger)
To make it more pallatable to the masses, I dumped a load of powdered ginger and some more sugar to make it more alco-pop in it and left it.
Turned out fine :)

I don't know there, the other day I had a pint of a dingle beer called weavers ginger.
Definitely a bitter, but with a ginger after taste. Actually quite pleasant. But so mixed up you just knew there were dingles involved in it.
