Apparenty two of my aunties/uncles are having street parties to celebrate the royal wedding..... :|

I personally couldn't care less. Seems weird to me but maybe they are just using it as an excuse for a street party, dunno.

Anyone else doing anything/nothing to celebrate?

Don't know them, didn't get an invite. Was quite indifferent to it all until earlier today when it turned out that 'next day' parts would be tuesday so the vw camper would have to stay in the garage over the weekend because of the royal wedding.

Managed to persuade the garage to re-assemble the camper at no extra cost and let me have it back over the weekend, then return it to them when the parts come in...... phew :smt069

as for the wedding - a street party? Do we look like we're from latin america? Wtf?

is there a Royal Wedding??? Would never have guessed!

But seriously.. good for them, but i personally have no interest in it, and am fed up with seeing it all over the tv. I'm beginning to wonder what was on TV before they announced the wedding!?!

Thanks for the day off though ;)

I aren't too fussed about the Royal family, was saying to AndyBrad tother day as it happens. They're a tourist attraction, may as well be in a zoo. They bring in a fair amount of people spending money....just like in a zoo!

I am getting a bit fed up of the weddin malarky, only the fact I can't get on with things cause I don't know which half of the country is closed for business, and I have a lot of bill type things to be getting along with.

I do however enjoy the horsey things with the guardsmen bobbing up n down in their shiny helmets, I do whenever theres something ont telly, but I don't go out of my wy to be waving flags, and closing streets for a party.....chavs fo that any way down at Pikey Towers when they have a scooby doo meet!

As Peg says, theres always a Royal wedding when theres a recession. JUst to take our silly minds away from the bigger picture!

Well I will sound like a broken record but it all winds me up. I'm totally anti, I don't mind if people want to swoon to the royals and I'd never fall out with anyone I liked over it, but I've never understood how being proud to British has got faded into the Royal seat.

Anyway, that said, I work in London and live in Surrey blah blah middle class commuter haven and you would think I'd see a lot of Royal fervour? I must say that although I try to avoid it, I see only about 1 in 10 or so shops with the flags up, everyone that I have spoken to who actually say that they are celebrating qualifies "celebrating" means going to a BBQ to have a few or more beers and they're not really fussed.

So I'm sure I'm not the first to think that despite the undoubted crowds that will line the route, maybe most of it is press hype and the majority of the population are getting a bit tired of it all and could take it or leave it?

Maybe, maybe not?

There a bit of celebration going on in my village, and I'll be joining in with the BBQ and beer :drink:. I will keep one eye on the telly in the morning and see what's worth watching. I actually quite like Prince's William and Harry (or at least what the public see of them), whereas I don't very much like the crew they spawned from. Once the current generation have popped their clogs and Wills is in charge, I think the Royals will be much more popular. They are no more than a tourist attraction in real practical terms, but then I quite like going to see some of Britains other tourist attractions. :smt102

I`ll be away for the weekend and will raise a glass for them :D

I wouldn`t go out of my way to celebrate it but I wish them well for the future and it`s nice to see community spirit alive and well.

I will celebrate by burning a tank of fuel on the bike, roads should be a bit quiet. :)

Seriously, All the best to them, but I don't like how so many people are cashing in by selling tacky trinkets..

Fair play, I do think they are both more relevant and certainly seem more grounded. I pray they are never actually in charge though.

Changing tact slightly - one of the unspoken taboos it seems to me is about Harry's father. Clearly not Charles and very possibly Major (?) James Hewitt.

Has this been hushed up or have I had my head in the sand being Mr Grumpy?

If time on the telly is worth anything, London will be swamped with American tourists for the rest of the year.
Cant turn the thing on without seeing something about the royals, wedding, etc.
You would not believe the amount of coverage shown in the US.

No party here as I'll be working but my wife had her surgery scheduled for earlier this week so she can be at home to watch the royal wedding live. Comes on at 4:00 AM local time here.

All the best to the royal couple for a long and happy future together.

We have been given the day off. The locals havent. At some point I may be sat by the garage drinking a G and T and waving a union flag as locals drive past. Otherwise inside garage doing work on the bike. That way I have a nce shiny bike for Saturday when the roads will be less busy.

I'm working today, and having the time off to go diving later in the year.

Our Network Nazis (sorry, IT Security) have blocked video feeds to our LAN. So I got a few brownie points with the girlies stuck in the call centre by scavenging a 3G dongle so they can watch on a laptop.

Why would anyone be stuck in front of a TV watching someone's wedding when they could be doing something fun or useful?

dizzyblonde
29-04-11, 08:50 AM
Theres only so much housework one can do, before sitting in front of the TV is looked upon as something better to do!
Two kids, one on school holiday, one asleep in his cot....may as well have a coffee and tune in!

It's true what they say about royal weddings making you proud to be British

The groom's mother slept around, his brother is probably not his father's kid and his father is a foreigner who she slept with for money. None of the family have ever worked and live in a huge council house on benefits.
The bride is unemployed and is getting married so she can live off his benefits and knock out loads of sponger kids.

Im busy sticking pins in eyes and nails in my ears so i dont have to hear or see any of the drivel, ok might just cut the plug off the telly for a week...

Obviously the pins went in too far and lobotomised you somewhat.

I believe that the Groom is active in the Britich Armed Forces, as is his Brother.

His father runs a orcanic business employing many people.

Even his Granny is working well after retirement age.

Agree about the slapper mum and half-brother tho.

Good for you! I love all the royal stuff, it's why this country is what it is.

Those people that say the royal family should be abolished aren't seeing the bigger picture in my opinion...

+ Kate is FIT.

As much as I don't like this media frenzied wedding with the excessive coverage on the telly or the fact that I lose a days pay (I'm self employed) I still think having the royal family is a great thing...for one thing it just reminds us all of how much history is behind this old country of ours...whether that history was good or bad it's worth being reminded of it...and whatever you say some of the royal family do very worthy things in the world

The wife has the coverage on, I'll be in the other room for the most part but will dip in and out of it...

I dont mind the Royals I can see that they do bring alot to the country etc etc. Part of being british is that we have a monarchy and I wouldnt want to see an end to that.

I fail to be able to become exited about somebody who I dont know, getting married to somebody else I dont know either. The whole thing about Jack Straw whinging because Blair and Brown didnt get an invite FFS, its their wedding day, it shouldnt be about politics or bigwigging or inviting this person and not that. They should be surrounded by their friends and family. Not faceless politicians and heads of state. Let them get on with it and leave them to enjoy their privacy, when he is king they bl**dy wont have any.

Buntings, flags, street parties, are not for me.

Who is footing the bill for all of this, economy is up the swanny, people loosing their jobs left right and centre, please dont tell me that the taxpayer is paying for it all...

The royals and the Middletons apparantly, but the the taxpayer pays the royals don't they?

Charlie gets more grumpy and sour faced the older he gets. Thought Camilla might have lightened him up a bit.

My sentiments exactly

They've both done a LOT more than most people here for this country including me....I would be more concerned with the wasting and abusing of the public's taxes by our government ministers than the royal family to be honest.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the wedding, although it was a little more understated than I thought it would be. She looked radiant and they looked very happy. I felt for her with all those eyes upon her, she did well and I hope they're very 'appy together. Tisn't every day you get to see that and it was worth it just to see Beatrice's stupid hat and the magnificent camera shots of the Abbey. Oh and the horses :-D (and no I don't mean Camilla before you all jump in :-P )

Great bit of history made there and I was glad to see it.

So there are about 7billion people in this world. Predictions that 2 billion will be watching it worldwide?! Just me or does that seem like a fairytale figure.

I know not everyone here watched it, but if they did that's only 60million. What about the other 1,940 million people?

The Queen gave the royal estates to the government to run in 1961 in return for an income. The estates generated £210 million last year and the cost of the royals was £38 million or so.

Now I've never been a fan of the royal family... they got where they are by being the most ruthless and having the toughest army back in the day as far as I'm concerned.

I did think the whole event was a bit excessive... but amazing at the same time, from Westminster Cathedral to Buckingham Palace was just awesome.

Watched large chunks of it, thought it was lovely to be fair. I'm no royalist but have to say it was a good spectacle. If people don't like it that's cool its their choice, but to see so many smiling happy people in the news for once was just great. There's enough doom and gloom every other day so was a good break from that if nothin else
