Got knocked off my bike last night and he drove off. He had time to tell me he just didn't see me though. Angry is not the word.

I have a vague knowledge of his numberplate, does anyone know if there are any search engines where I can cross reference the start of the plate to the model of car? VW Golf btw.

Bike is repairable but it's gonna cost quite a bit, pretty sure the forks are bent considering the way it happened. Trying to ride a bent bike with a police escort is interesting.

I'm fine, bruised hip. A&E said to just keep it moving. CCTV, not where I was, the police are checking the ANPR in the area but I'm not holding up much hope. Just so angry about it. Even worse are the people that drove past me while I was struggling to pick my bike up. I just wanna find him. :(

People just dont want to get involved anymore, mind you if a biker had been in any of the cars you would have got help. Maybe one of the org police can help with the reg?

Ouch sorry to here that.

The police should be able to identify the cars in that colour off a partial plate.
Which part of the plate did you get?

Theres some real Royal Wankeeers about at the moment on the road, nothing a gat gun on the front of the bike wouldn't solve!

I can't offer any advice on tracing the vehicle TBH, as I don't think theres much hope :( Sorry:(

The problem was that it was dark so not 100% sure of the colour. I know it was a dark vw golf and believe the start of the number plate is kn05 ..... but then I had kf05 written down on my phone.

My best advice is go back to the scene of the accident and around the same time, or an hour beforehand and stay till at least an hour afterwards. Just sit there with drink and a notebook, no doubt you will see him again unless you're really unlucky.

How about ringing local garages and asking if anyone is bringing a VW in for repair ;) , try bodyshops too . Somebody with an 05 plate may still be proud of the looks on their car and would want it repaired . To be honest I think there is something on the ANPR system that queries random Police looking up info on cars from different areas or something ...... this is not correct but I have vague memories of an explanation as to why they can`t do it as it carries a good rollocking off their Super if they get caught doing it unless they are directly involved . On the upside , you are still walking , anger will subside and you have an opportunity to fettle a bike back to good health again rather than binning it . Not being dismissive of your accident , I totally understand where you are right now , had it done to me but the happy outcome is that you were not hospitalised and are here to persue the plonker that did this to you .... and that`s good enough for me ;)

Good point. I might have a go at sitting by the side of the road. From what the police said last night.....he probably went past again to see if I was up. I just feel irritated, more so with not being able to pick my bike up, thought I was stronger than that. I'm all for equal rights and all that but I presumed being a female might have made people stop but they just carried on. Did make me laugh when someone asked if I'd binned it on the corner though. Very appreciative of the two women that stopped, rang the police and stayed with me for a couple of hours.

To be honest Zobers , I`m 6ft 2 and built like a Brick Outhouse and picking a bike up is a knack . I tend to approach it from the outside edge (tyres near to me rather than seat) , put my foot against the tyre and grab the bar and brake at the same time and heave the bike upwards by leaning back . Now this is done with Renthal bars on my bike and it is quite hard . Factor in some injuries , you have clip-ons and an unwieldy bike to lift it , it`s pretty difficult no matter which way you approach it . It`s weird that when you need help the most and are desperate to get a bike out of the road , you get let down ....... but sometimes people don`t stop for reasons unknown . The guy in the BMW that ignores you as you look at them for help , he may be on his way to his wife giving birth , he does feel for you but he has higher priorities . The woman in the Fiat Multipla , she has kids to pick up from a pre-Royal Wedding party , the old man in the Nissan Micra ? .... he is so infirm he is lucky he can drive . It`s one of those things that you don`t know about , but trust me , if people can help then they will . If they just drive by and ignore you because they want to get home , then shame on them and Kudos to anyone that stopped to help you :)

Does anyone know how to tell if my forks or frame is bent?

xXBADGERXx
01-05-11, 12:49 PM
Does it feel odd ? . First thing I would check is actual alignment , in a small accident it is easy to upset the front end . I usually undo the clamps slightly but keep the wheel in place at the bottom . I then tighten the bottom clamp and then the top clamp to sort any alignment issues out .

Do the forks stick at all if you bounce the front end ? . Check the forks for leaks or any crinkles in the chrome , only sure way (if nothing is obvious) is to take the forks out and roll them on a known flat surface , you will see any imperfections if they are out at all . What makes you think the forks are damaged ?

Don`t know about frame issues as any accident I had that bent a frame was quite obvious to the naked eye . I am sure others will be along shortly to offer more advice or corrections , mine is just a quick method to make sure alignment is fine before further investigation is required .

Zoe, that sucks big time, glad you're reasonably ok.
The forks may have just twisted in the yokes, if you release the top clamps it may straighten them up, or are the bars still aligned and straight ?

Hope you find the gutless w**ker .

Perhaps when you were thinking the plate was kn05, you were thinking knob!!! Sorry about your off, hope you get the git...

Was just thinking Zoe, you said you thought it was KN05 but you had KF05 on your phone, unless you have a qwerty keyboard then N is underneath F on the keypad, easy mistake to make if you're shaken up and typing with jittery fingers.

The reason I believe the forks are bent or out of alighnment is.....the accident was a head on collision. :( Long story short, I was sat in a queue of traffic in Grantham, around 10 foot from the VW golf infront and basically the golf decided it needed to reverse backwards. He just shoved it into reverse and wellied it into my bike. Not like most people who reverse slowly and check their mirrors. Was travelling pretty quick by the time he hit me and I'd imagine the fork took most of the force.

Bloody cheeky git pulled his wondow down and leant out to say "sorry I didn't see you" then drove off, leaving me under my bike.

Anyway, I was using a QWERTY keyboard on my phone. I've contacted the local council and the local newspaper so I'm hoping I find the bugger. I'm gonna have a friend take my forks out for me on Wed and I'm ordering the new parts too, so bike should be up and running again in the next few weeks. :)

Really hope you catch up with the twonk who did that to you. Local paper might jog memories etc or he might read it himself and get a conscience.

If it happened to my bike i'd be handing out leaflets at the scene and be pricing up a tv advert :)

What a barstool, glad you're okay.

Has any paint been left on your bike/the road?

There may be shop front cameras nearby that could have caught him near the time before or after (sorry don't know the area).

Hope you find out who the thoughtless little **** is and he gets the book thrown at him.

There is slight paint of the broken bit of plastic from his car. It's darks, probably dark blue or black. Just got an email back from the council, they have footage of the roundabout just after my accident spot but no numberplates are visible and they want to charge £60 for me to see it! I'm not sure if it's worth a look anyway just incase it jogs some memories or something.

No shops nearby before the bridge anyway.

This is where it happened:

Surely the police should be checking this, it was a hit and run, or have they got speeders to catch?.

Try the police, they can do a partial vrm PNC check for vehicles but to narrow it down they will use the postcode area else you could end up with thousands of results.

A non stop should be reported anyway ... hugs hun.... hope u find the bar stool x

I'll ring the police again today, need to mention my hospital visit anyway. I understand that my accident isn't a priority so I don't blame them for not looking into it as much as I'd like. :(

Thanks for the well wishes though, let's hope they catch the cheeky git.

No news yet. I am fine though :) Trying to sort out my bike, probably wont be able to get it back to the same condition but least it'll get a propper service from all of this. The article came out in the Grantham Journal so I'm hoping someone sees it and gains a conscience or has information on the vehicle.
