still with the rozzers but I am going to try and get a companion.
There are 2 dog handler jobs going and I am applying. Just done the Dog Awareness day to see what is involved so wish me luck ....... long process just to get the application form in.
Me wants a cuddly German buddy. Robh539 is already looking for ways out of coming to mine ;) he likes walking Sam but I think dog walking could take on a new meaning :)
If I do get the job (which I doubt as 50 plus people are interested) it wont leave much time for biking ......... specially if GP dog dont get on with Sam :(
best of luck to you, big fluffy black german shepherd should be coming your way then haha

Yep, good luck Shelly
My wife was a kennel assistant with our lot and would have loved to do this side of our work.

Ermm, not that I'm worried, but...out of interest, just how many Police people are there on the Org?
Oh good luck with Police Dog thing, if you don't get selected I'll be your dog Shellywoozle, woof woof.

VIZ TOP TIP: Burglars! Remember to run with one arm outstretched and wrapped in a baby's mattress, in case they set one of their dogs on you.

Go on why not bet it would be great to do. Mates wife handles and trains drug dogs and loves it, dogs are always hyper though and seem to have white powdery noses alot of the time hmm ;)

Now now, that is one of the biggest urban myths out there, its certainly not how they're trained. Plus how do you think they're trained to find cash, food and other stuff. [-X
The reason they're all hyper is because they use luanatic spaniels :D

Best of luck, I applied years ago, but had to drop out when I broke my leg.
It's flippin hard work, but specialist roles are the way to go in the cops.
Fingers and paws crossed for you!
Pete ;)

Thank u guys. I think it would be an awesome job, it does sound like a lonely job single crewed all the time.
More I think about it more I want it. Best get my interview technique tips and application form advice and cross my fingers.
Watch out the for sale section, one bike, one springer and boyfriend needing new home .... ha ha
just remember for the interview, dont tell them that you want a police dog to bite people you dont particularly like, they seem to frown upon that sort of thing :)

Yeah, and suggesting that you'd prefer a pit bull that can hold it's own in a fight is a bit of a no-no too.
Good Luck,
Keith.

Well guys I have had my application signed off by my Sgt and its gone to my Chief Inspector .......awaiting his authorisation/. So that's it I have officially applied.
I am doing a night shift with the dog handler tonight, mt Sgts are bending over backwards to help me ............. either that or they want rid of me from shift :(
Either way I have just got to wait and see.

I spent some time with the dog handlers years ago.
I remember a pursuit where the dog was on my lap, chewing and barking at the bandit car in front. I was pooing myself!
Been bitten a few times, nothing serious compared to one "customer"
Dog man chasing a car, driver abandons and runs.
Dog man heard over the radio;
"Stand still, police with a dog.
Dog released, stand still"
Pause
"oh ****, I think I need an ambulance"
I was next there.
The dog had gone for the tender centre of the man who was sitting on the floor with his legs apart. The blood was filling the gap between his legs at a scary rate! He needed some plastic surgery to fix his danglies!
Nickname for the dogs?
Land shark.
Woof woof!
Pete ;)

Pete that is scary but i've just burst out laughing reading it
Lucky lucky lucky, I'd love a job like that! Just with one difference though... I wouldnt want a german shepherd, I'd want a money sniffing springer ;)

Apollo you take care over there mate x
I share your love with them after a night with one. Unfortunately a I did not attend 1 job as it was a dull night but that gave the dog time to train ..... me being the offender.
Well I ran and didn't realise how scary it is to look back and see a giant fur ball focused on you running towards you at full pelt. Thank god for the training sleeve. I did everything from attacking the dog handler to hiding in the woods and being greated by teeth.
Only hairy time was running across a field and as the dog took hold the momentum of his weight made me wobble and I slipped on wet grass. The dog worked his way up the sleeve which gets thinner at top, I looked up and saw his teeth in my face, he got called off once my mate stopped laughing.
I have a new respect for police dogs...... just made me want job even more
