Me and wifey want a week away in the med or somewhere first week in June, can't decide where to go.
Can anyone recommend a destination considering the following,

No chavvy places,
No Brits on the pi55 places,
No places that are a magnet for time share sellers, beach sellers etc,
No foam party, living it large places,
No overly populated with kids places,

Yes to decent hotel with good food,
Scenic would be good, not just a resort with sun,
Easy to get to,

Im being picky because some places are just like butlins with better weather full of low lifes who just wanna be **** faced 24/7.

Nothing wrong with that, but not for me, so I'd rather stay in this country and not pay £5 a pint of cider if the places are no better than over here.

We've ben to menorca loads of times as it's really nice but fancied a change.

Javea, Spain Costa Blanca. Get a place in the old town it'll be right up your street.

I was going to say menorca, cala galdana specifically. So peaceful and there is some fantastic secluded beaches if you walk along some of the cliff top paths.

Playa blanca in lanzarote is also, yaiza princess 5 star is nice with a good location.

Kerry and I are looking at Greece, possibly Rhodes, Crete or Kos in the first week of June.

G, we've never stayed in galdana, but visit every time we go, it's lovely albeit a bit quiet at night.
We normally stay in cala n bosch, which has a lovely Marina for food and drinks at night.

We normally rent a villa and car but the prices have gone stupid hence going back to hotels.
I would prefer a villa tbh as hotels can be like cattle markets and noisy, your own villa and pool is so relaxing.

The galdana hotel has nice villas with jacuzis etc, that where we stayed.

I reckon you would like Rhodes old town, it's a fantastic place, the roads in the north of the island are unbelievable too.

New Zealand! Though given that we are on our way into winter, I'd wait about 6 months

Love to mate, I've never fancied Australia but new Zealand is a place on the list at some point.

They are completely different (having lived in both for a number of years). NZ is great - especially if you hit the roads down south. True, the weather is a little cooler than Oz, but it has so many other cool things going for it.

What sort of budget? There's some beautiful places on the Med if you can spend the money. Unfortunately now that I have three to pay for 'per person' at full price, it puts those places into a price range I'm not prepared to stomach for a two week holiday.

As little as poss, if money was no object I'd be having a villa tbh, but got a lot to pay out this year, also my France trip in September.

Oh Phil I wasn't kidding. Javea Spain. Really lovely town. Basically split in two. One side is a little bit party town but not ridiculous and the other is the old town with the port and the church.

Although it's quite far from an airport so you'd need a transfer or hire car.

Well Spain is probably going to be one of the cheapest, so it's just a case of picking the places that more upmarket and aren't full of hen & stag do's. Marbella or Puerto Banus mainland, Portals Nous or similar in Majorca, or not the med but what about Grand Canaria? Mogan is nice (not to be confused with nearby Taurito, which is probably nice, but it a purpose built hotel complex, which often gets advertised as Mogan, but its miles away).

Maybe Turkey would be cheaper, but I wouldn't know where to go.

The Greek Islands in the Ionian Sea are nice (Zakynthos, Ithakis, Lefkas, etc)

You could do worse than look at Sidari in Corfu or most places in Crete.

I went to Egypt in 2009, as you'd expect stinking hot, but the people were great. The snorkeling and diving was unbeliieeevable!!!

Skiathos - But you'd probably want to be near Skiathos Town or Megliamos. The Koukonares end is too isolated.

Cala D'or or S'iliot or any of those places on the east coast of Mallorca? We had a cheap break in Cala D'or a few years ago, not many kids, not many chavs or tacky places either. Our hotel had a few kids and the restaurant wasn't up to much, but the town centre was built for visitors so it's all decent restaurants and shops. Lots of Europeans as well, not just Brits. We were very pleasantly surprised.

West coast of Majorca is stunning too, small towns like Deia, but it's expensive and very quiet.

Croatia is not so cheap this year, the celebs have discovered it and pushed the bloody prices up!

egypt, mebe not a good idea at this particular moment ;)

Actually, there are really good deals for Sharm El Sheikh now. One of my
female colleagues is going there for her hen night (turned hen week, you
have to go for at least a week to get a good deal). And Sharm El Sheikh
has not been affected by the Egyptian revolution as it is too far away from
Egypt proper, it is like a separate country.

I myself normally go to the Dominican Republic. Been there around 7 times
now and even explored the island on a 125cc motorbike.

Turkey. South west Turkey is stunning. Best seen from a boat - you should consider staying on a yacht. Easy to get to - flight to Dalaman. The peninsula west of Marmaris is beautiful, Marmaris itself is a hot Blackpool.

A Constantinou brothers hotel in Cyprus. They are all rather posh, and two of them are adults only. You want a place where the food is outstanding? Nowt like a Greek Island to stand upto the plate on that score, history, bags of it, quiet places with beautiful views everywhere. Beaches, if you are in the know;) are found where chavs and 'orrid cockney kids don't know about!

Wherever you go in the med these days its overrun by bloody brits, you get touts everywhere, 'ere, mate you British?' Unless of course you are halfway up Troodos mountain, wishing you were on a bike:p

Lovely place with secluded beaches
also 1st week of June will be quiet as they will be entering the wet season
(i went there on June 11th and had one 20 minute downpour which was very refreshing)

Agreed. Or Paleokastritsa, just a litle further down the west coast. Peaceful resort that still has some local charm, good mix of accommodation, and is well away from the "English pubs" that ruin the south coast.

One down side - I'll be there in the first week of June!

I stayed at Hotel Eden just outside Rovinj in Northern Croatia a few years. Gorgeous. Rovinj is just like a little southern Italian town, cobbled and a big Church up a steep hill. Hotel food was really fantastic although we had loads of Russians there so could be a bit serile. The town itself is full of character. Car hire is cheap and the rest of the region is easy to get to if you don't mind mountain roads! Otherwise Lake Bled/Slovena

Pedrosa

Rota near Cadiz. Beautiful and cheap as chips when your used to living in the Marbella area. Unspoilt, superb beaches wide variety of restaurants and bars at sensible prices.

I am going there myself for a long weekend this month.

Well we've decided on Crete for our week away, we've also gone all inclusive as the drinks in Europe have gone ridiculous.

We've chosen a quieter part of Crete as I'm not into living it large anymore :)

Italy, great food, great scenery, friendly people. Some places can be pricey to stay but only in the really touristy areas.

Dalmation coast in Croatia.

Some of the Greek islands are still good, try Paxos.

We're off to Crete in July, hopfully Morocco in October and Italy for Christmas.

As has been mentioned, Crete is good. Maybe fly into Chania on the western side, then head south to Paliachora. Very nice area.

Kefalonia is nice too, albeit a bit pricey. Im a sucker for the Greek islands tho.

If you want to go further afield, Death Valley in California is stunning. I'd recommend staying at Furnace Creek, either the Ranch or the Hotel are amazing.

not read ll the replies but Lanzarote is a great place if you've not been mate. Loads of touristy things to see, all volcanic cool things like that. Nice beaches and the brits that do go there are manily families or oldies. Those who wanna get off their faces will be in tenerfie or gran canaria as there is much better night life there.
Lanzarote has a few nightclubs all in the centre but its nothing like the others are in that respect.

And since they kicked me and the other timeshare sellers off the island years ago you got no worries on that front, only the african "looky-looky" men who seel leather goods and carved wood things and they are generally really nice and friendly and not a hassle at all.
