How hard can it be to recruit someone? Very, so it seems.

I am on a look out for a Print Room Manager to run a small set up located in Wembley. All they need is some people management skills, a bit of technical and financial noddle and good IT skills and a willingness to learn.

The money, isnt brilliant, it never is with Xerox, but its ok, circa £20k i reckon.

We have interviewed 10 poeple and all of them are just lacking something, in one way or another.

So, do you out there in org land know of anyone that wants a job?

20k? double it and i'll consider it.

i know you said salary isnt brill but that does seem low for london

dont compromise with the vacancy tho, if they aint doing it for you dont just go for the best of an ordinary bunch. i've done that a few times and its not worked yet

Keith, for 40k i'll do it...no hang on i am doing it for half that. The print trade is shocking at the moment and unless its a Law firm, then its all outsocurced, and thats all about bottom line im affraid. I also hear you about getting the right person. Its a lot harder than you think it would be.

Tim - Got any jobs? Sadly its only a small print room hence what they are offereing. They may offer more, but probably only 5k more than that.

As i say, im not on a huge ammout more than what they are offereing and im currently doing 2 roles. Oh the joy.

Anyway, im bitter and have worked for them for 12 years, so just ignore me

Sorry Viney. If you re read my post I wrote paid, not pay. When we cut staff at that site by 80% the print room went as they no longer handled large volumes of drawing/documents. It did involve more than simply running photocopiers, they also had a few high speed A0 scanner/copiers/folder/printers that they had to copy/scan all incoming suppliers drawings on, index into the appropriate systems etc. as well as managing all the imaging for a 1000 person office

Crikey, our apprentice is nearly on that, and our engineers are pushing £30k.

Maybe there is a correlation between the offering and lack of candidates...
