View Full Version : Fuelly.com
I have just started to use a website called www.fuelly.com it allows you to put in your model bike or car and enter the details of when you fill up with petrol.
It then keeps a history of your mpg and you can search other vechicles. Also has a cool autosig you can add to any forum showing your average mpg details

I use it religiously as do a fair few here I suspect, it is depressing though when you see just how poor your MPG is because you twist that throttle too blinking much.....I'm getting 34mpg average at the mo on my new SMT....too many short commutes and too much back road shenanigans!
Shame this forum doesn't support the image output of the fuelly sig...I settled for links instead

I started using that and then it just depressed me.

Maybe taking the baffle out will lower it a bit? We will see :D
I already know my next update on there will be lower as the bike has been used for commuting, and I may have been running late a couple of times...
Just added the new steed, starting with the 2nd full tank.

Congrats on the SMT, I assume you got it only recently then?
Have you joined http://www.ktmsmt.com yet? some useful bike specific knowledge in there...
Not yet, no - will have a bit of a browse around that and ktmforum, but I'm not too fussed about other forums at the moment.

I know what you mean, atleast have a good read though...there's good tips in there as well as discussion on mods etc...
Enjoy the ride...I'm 1300 miles in and still smiling every ride ;)

Looks interesting. Going to start using this I think, see how much mpg my bike gets compared to the car.
This is more than likely a daft question but with it being a US site do you put the gallons in US or imperial units? IIRC a UK gallon is slightly more than a US one?

I always put in miles covered, litres and cost/litre. The petrol station receipts detail in litres and my odo is in miles ;)

You've got to put the mileage in for it to make sense :-P

Put it in litres to save confusion.
UK gallon is 4.5l, US one is 4. (ish)

I'm going off the odometer, so this is essentially the 0 point - 186 on the actual clock. Just added the one before from an estimate though, so we're looking at low 40s as a baseline.

I haven't got better than 37mpg yet, my average is 34...but I'm not surprised for what I am doing, the last was 30!
P.S. have you seen this: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
Service manual seems to agree with that, but with the corrolary that the pistons and bores aren't the only things that need running in - 600 miles of < 6.5k, then 600 < 9.5k after the initial service. I'm sure YC or embee (I think - I'm sure someone here is a materials scientist) will jump in and shred that article presently ;)
Dealer on the other hand just said don't thrash it right from mile 1, so we'll see.
Have used fuelly.com for a while
the sv average http://www.fuelly.com/driver/steveg/sv650s
the sprint average http://www.fuelly.com/driver/steveg/sprint-st
the sv averages 7 mpg more the the trumpet
The scary bit is how much you spend on petrol ....

This guy thinks he get 230 miles to a tank on his Tuono and averaging 62.7!!!

I must be either a complete tortoise or doing something right as checking on my bike they seem to be 43-44mpg but I can get 50+ regular.
Having said that I do not do any city or town riding and for the best part keep within speed limits[sometimes]

Somehow I think yours is realistic even with only 2 fill ups and his is bo1l0cks....his best was 80mpg...as if!

Yeah, I need to get my bike out on a proper long run to see what it will do as I suspect the short commutes and evening blasts are not conducive to good mileage. Even so I doubt I'd get in the 50's as my bike is not that type, it has a 1000cc v-twin which doesn't help and is just tooooo easy to get friendly with the throttle...I wouldn't change it for anything. It will be interesting to see how Orose's SMT mileage compares to mine once he's done his running in...
What bike are you riding DT? VFR / Triumph Speed Triple, I can't remember?

The old 955i Sprint ST with the 108bhp engine------later version is 118bhp before they changed to the 1050cc

Probably c*cked the units up somewhere, working out US gallons putting it in as UK and kilometers instead of miles or something.

Big V-Twins aren't famed for fuel economy so I would think that anything near or over 40mpg would be a bonus.

Yeah, you would think....
Date______Miles___Litres__Price___MPG
17/10/10__230.0___12.984__$0.93___80.5
Must have put in 230 miles instead of 130? Although even 130 miles to a tank is pushing it on a Tuono...
I reckon he was depressed seeing the real average and fiddled it to feel better, that might be me soon....30MPG last fill up :(

I think carnivore was seeing pretty good mpg on his raptor on a long, steady run. Maybe if this guy is in USA and riding like a fanny on the motorway then he could be doing even better?
I don't know anyone with a pair of b*ll*cks who could ride a V twin thou at 55mph except under extreme duress though!

Tell me about it, everytime I go out, like tonight, I think..."right, time to feed the throttle more slowly and save on fuel, I can enjoy this without nailing it" and then I lose it and the animal need for that raw power takes over ....I feel another 30mpg from Fuelly next time around

my sprint st1050 does 50 + on a run , town work is a killer , esp commute through Worcester as traffic is always bad and there are parts where can't filter as not room
