View Full Version : Dropped my new Shoei, DOH!
Not too miffed, but my new shoei slid off my chest of drawers onto soft carpet, made more of a thump than a cringing whack like it hit concrete.
It'll be fine won't it? :( can't be more than 3 foot.
I wouldn't be bothered. I've had them fall off the bed in the past onto DDT carpet.
Have a crash and see if you survive. Only way to be sure.

I think some dealers can test a dropped helmet.

Should be fine, if its not marked then it will be ok.
Most helmets are damaged in an accident which causes the inner shell to compress while slowing your head down and once its done that then it cant do it again so its only fit for the bin!

+1, I can dispose of your damaged shoei for a very competitive rate. Especially if its a large...
been reading up on it, it's really only when something is in your helmet like your head that the helmet gets comprimised. According to Snell, dropping it isnt all that bad so long as your head isnt in it. As does Arai in a video with Jay Leno! and that's onto Concrete.
Ride magazine also did a test on dropped helmets, they dropped them from various heights, 3 foot 6 foot and even lobbed them out of windows. they all passed the as the same safety standard as ones that hadn't been dropped.
(not my words so don't come and haunt me if you carried on using a helmet after lobbing it out a window!)
Mine's fine, im using it

It is in large funnily enough. if it can't survive a slip onto carpet. whats it gonna do in a crash!
Shows those tests dont have very high standards then ;)
