Hi
I am looking for a new chain and sprocket set for my Suzuki SV 650.
it is a 2006 (K6) Model, Sport (Semi-Faired).
I mostly use it for commuting to work and back and to visit my Girlfriend.
I have been quoted £114 for an Ultra X-ring chain and sprocket set, Stainless steel.
however I am not sure about this stuff so am seeking the advice of the SV guru's. I am also looking for tires but I think I have it sorted. getting a set of Pirelli Diablo strada's

I just had mine changed in order to pass MOT (coincidence, I knew it needed doing). I simply got the service place to put whatever they thought was right on, they are good guys I trust them. They did my chain the time before too. I think they charged £110 for the chain and sprockets.
I have a Scottoiler but I commute 150 miles per week. I think the last set lasted 8000 miles.

8000 miles is appalling. I'd be having a word with them at that.
You should be getting well over 20k with scottoiler.
What is "ultra" chain?
Get DID VM2 or tsubaki alpha as minimum. If I was doing that commute I would get sigma.

Oh dear. Have I definitely been had or could I have done something to cause excessive chain wear? I had to change the chain because I could not make the slack spot tight enough, the difference between slack and tight spots was too much.
I confess that I rode through the winter and did practically no chain cleaning. I was hoping the scottoiler would be enough.

Scottoiler is enough.
Making the slack spot tight... it is more important to keep the tight spot slack.

8000 ??? you should be getting 3 times that mileage . Never been a fan of scottoilers , stick with DID X ring and youll be ok.
