Well, for the last 5 or 6 weeks I've been beavering away with my SV & now it's finally in 1 piece I thought I would let people see what I've been up to & get some feedback. So here you are, here is Custard in all her glory.

Ive still got a few little things to sort out, but, on the whole it's done & I'm well pleased with the results.

Nice bum warmer you got there Col! :)

Think the red bit might need to be colour co-ordinated with the rest, but she looks rather tasty 8)

I dont know why, but the red subframe was one of the hardest decisions. Black, silver, blue, red. Ended up red to accentuate it
Worked out that I could have bought another SV for what I've spent, but I'm pleased with the result.

It isn't Dizzy, no. She has served me so well over the past 3 years so was worth spending the time & money on her.

Tis a standard 675 Daytona silencer. The linkpipe is a mixture of 675, 1050 sprint & Ducati 998 linkpipes cut & welded to fit

Why did you use those link pipes as it appears at first glance a random combination? And did you do the welding yourself or who did you use?

You would have to call it Anthrax or Toxic or something else mean and nasty for streetfighter mate. I think Custard ain't tough enough for em lol

Nice work !!
Being ultra picky, I think if some of exhaust pipe running to the can could be shortened / hidden more / run differently etc I think it would improve the lines a bit.
Just my opinion of course and not being negative or anything.

Got the 675 linkpipe with the subframe, tried to make a downpipe from just the 998 front pipe which didnt' work, close, but not close enough, then thought the 1050 would go straight on...... Wrong! lol. Got an agricultural engineer to do the welding. It's a bit rough & I have got to buff out quite a lot of grinder marks, but for rejigging the subframe & building the linkpipe he charged me £100.

I looked at different routes, but there is no space between the swingarm because of the rear shock, so this was the easiest route tbh.

Not a problem. It is the complete rear end of a Triumph Daytona 675, but the subframe has had to be modified to fit the SV frame.

Great picture story, hmm lots of ideas now ;) Was the frame chopped and welded or just reshaped?

Subframe had to be cut & shortened just a little, but it also needed to be narrowed at the top as it was the same width as the SV frame. That then made things difficult with the battery tray as it didnt fit properly, so a bit of cutting & shutting had to be done.

Cheers Bill, I'm really impressed with it now, I could just do with a race can for it now, but that will have to wait as they command quite a high premium & I've spent about £800 to get it to this stage

you NEED! some USD's !!!!! awesome
At around £600 for USDs, they can wait lol. I was looking at Buell Firebolt front, but as I said above it's supped most of my money now

It's gonna be the Triumph getting all of the crud now Dave. Custard is for sunny days only :)

Many thanks for all of the positive comments, makes me feel like my hard work has been worth it :)

Can't wait to see/hear this in the flesh. Hope the weather is nice for the chippy run, wouldn't mind following that around, very swish!

I'm hoping to have it on the road by the Chippy run, fingers crossed & all that. She doesnt sound all that good tbh. Standard Triumph can, so it's full of baffles, but, hey ho, never mind. Ebay gets peered at every day waiting to pounce on a bargain race can, but they are as rare as rocking horse droppings

Col looks the total part!

You not look into doing a 748/999 style exhaust to put the linkpipe up the swing arm?

Lozzo
23-05-11, 10:20 PM
Colin, that looks great mate, well done.

Keep an eye on that reg/rec though, its position means it won't be getting much airflow over it and may overheat. It'd be best moved to somewhere up front or to the side where it gets a constant stream of cool air wafting over it. Being stuck between your ar5e and the exhaust isn't a good place tbh, you may find it's not the exhaust toasting your undies.

Spec is on page 2. It's basically a 675 Triumph rear end

I do have my reservations as well Lozzo. I did think about cutting into the undertray to see if I could direct air to the R/R. I will probably move it before it gets on the road. Attaching it to the front yoke, or even under the front fairing would make a lot more sense.

Not a lot of room between the swingarm & rear brake, so I was just a little worried about the hot exhaust so close to certain parts.

Very nice indeed, love seeing different rear ends fitted to curvies, and the work gone into getting it together is first class

Thats it, Custard is finished, just need to check a couple of small things & set the engine up, get her MOT'd & we should be mobile :)
I have refitted the bellypan after a few people reckoned it looks better. Reg Rec has been moved & my mate has made me a kissy little bracket for the Gixxer brake reservoir.

Sounds cr@p to be honest & yes it was a lot of money & buggering about, but "it's a prototype" in my best David Essex voice (Silver dream racer) lol.

No, I wanted to build something different & had this vision. I know it wont be to everybody's taste, but I love it. I will say that the back could have done with being a little lower, but it's done now, so it will do.
I'm hoping that i can afford different mods as time goes on. Having visions of a full Buell front with the rim mounted disc, single sided swinging arm, but I doubt it will happen.................We'll see :)

Daytona cans still ask a big premium, cheapest I've seen on fleabay is just under £200, so it will have to wait until something crops up, but yes, should be one day lol,
