Inspired by someone elses chain cleaning thread, and my hatred for the horrible Castrol Wax that Honda recommend you use, I decided to give my chain a bit of a clean as it's not been cleaned in 1300 miles and I wanted to start using PJ1 lube instead of Castrol.

So...

Before, utterly minging...

After, nice and clean, and coated in PJ1 clear no fling lube... lovely job lol

Is it wrong to say thats so clean its sexy??!!

I do mine every couple of hundred miles with paraffin and wurth dry lube but its never that clean. As luck has it I need to buy more lube so might just try the PJ1 :-)

I go threough phases of loving having a clean bike... then leaving it minging for months.

As long as it has a real good coat of posh wax on it then you can leave it for a while filthy and it will come up like new again.

Probably better to leave it tbh as it would have a nice oily covering :)

Is the adjustment range marking accurate? Looks like a new chain is recommended.

What is PJ1?

I use PDL, a dry wax. Makes the chain white though.

I'm sorry, but I think your idea of 'utterly minging' are completely wrong!!

So, never mind the before and after....what about the bit in the middle, how did you clean it?

And BP...we got a can of that PDL...is it good? or average?

I quite like the castrol racing chain lube, PJ1 is OK, didn't seem to last well though.

You got a repsol blade then :D

Have fun keeping those wheels clean ;)

So do we, but we ran out:( Seems to last too. I don't like flingy stuff, but I don't like really dry lube either.
Didn't think you liked posh stuff Chris!

It's good, the Tiger chain was stripped soon after purchase and PDL applied. I'm on 8500 miles now and the chain has only been adjusted once. Shame really as I bought a torque wrench and specific socket for it!

You only need a bit, but it's sensitive to water. Plus, as there's no oil on the chain, the links get a bit of surface rust. Easy to rub off though, if so inclined.

Big can is a tenner, lasts a season.

Sensitive to water??

But its a lubricant....and its always soddin rainin ere!!!
Won't last a full season in this house, I take care to blather every chain with copious amounts, I can't help it :)

That's a damn good question, I'm hoping its just an trick of the eye because of the angle the picture has been taken. Annoyingly I have no more photos that really show the idicator. Even more annoyingly is I'm locked in the house and Kerry has taken my keys to the gym so I can't check and you've got me worried lol:rolleyes:

I have one photo, but it's still a funny angle. I'll check when she gets home.

The Castrol wax pretty much covered the back wheel as soon as you put it on. PJ1 Blue label is good stuff, I love it, it's really stick though. Did 10k+ on the 600rr without ever needing to adjust the chain.

It wasn't yorkiechris or binky filty, but it was fairly dirty lol.

Cleaning was, white spirit, small medium bristle paintbrush, kitchen towel and patience because I don't have a paddock stand for this bike yet :(

Yep, it's a nightmare, should be easier with the PJ1 as it flicks much less. Gave the wheels a real good coat of wax this afternoon, so although they will get minging, they should just wipe clean.

It's fine, you bugger! (heart attack)

It's right on the good side of the green block, amazing what a photo can do.

I must admit, it does look like the adjuster is in the red !!
If it was I'd take it back to the dealer, with that many miles it should've been perfect.

Er, yes, I did read it, I was speaking IF it was in the red !!

Tbh, I'd chop the blade mate, with a chain that worn it's not worth much now, I'll give you £1000 for the bike and that's being generous :)

Ha clearly I should have spent more time reading your post lol... damn old age is contagious.

£1000, sounds like a good deal... done :D

dunno what ur on about, I thought standard method was to pour engine oil on it? and when you stop getting dirty oil up the back of your leg, is when it needs another application lol

Scottoiler... 2 1/2 years, 15,000 miles of abuse, three adjustments totalling one full turn of the adjuster screws and the chain looks like new - nuff said.

I go on when my boot isn't waterproof any more!

Bike mists a bit out of the clutch cover too so my right boot can be waterproof too :)
