The other day I was bimbling along on the SV. I come to a stop light which is preceded by a sharp right turn (keep in mind this is not-UK driving).

I slow down for the sharp turn and keep the left part of the lane when I see the typical droplets on the tarmac..DIESEL!!!! I tried to avoid them but still caught some of them... Was doing about 15mph and the turn was about a 90 degrees one... The back stepped out badly, I grabbed the clutch because I knew I couldn't bring myself not to close the gas. Looked into the curve to see where I was going and brought my foot down to keep it stable.

I was pretty lucky and managed to ride it out. Came to a stop, bike turned sideways, still on the right side of the road, heart pounding and everything.. The gunk stayed on my tire for a couple of kms, as I could feel the back trying to step out slightly (maybe just my imagination)

Funny thing is I didn't quite panic, I knew to look for it, especially around stop lights, but it still freaks me out to think of what if I had hit it in a normal curve, doing more than 15mph...

Moral of the story : watch out for diesel out there... Now that the summer's in, cars run with the AC on and that also causes water to drip down from under their cars at stops and that water drags a lot of gunk with it, making for quite the dirty combo

Sometimes the smell is the first warning about diesel.
Thanks for warning us!
