Whats the power output of the SV battery?
I never had a problem with the SV running heated grips, brighter lights etc and Im contemplating grips and HID on the DRz but it has notoriously poor electrics.
Im intending to direct wire the reg/reg to the battery (free power mod) upgrade the battery and make sure everything which runs, only runs from iginition live. Standard DRz electrics have them pulling constant current - not un-common for none trickle charged bikes to be drained after been stood a fortnight. (due to a combination of things admitantly) but with the gps grips and HID all on at the same time I want to do my best to make sure the bike will start.
Sooooo im contemplating a battery upgrade, just wondering if an SV battery is an option as I never thougth of them as too expensive.

Back to school :-P
It is alternator that controls power output, bigger battery will just last longer before conking out.
Is it a 3phase alternator?
Wiring some high drain items through a relay can help avoid power losses to resistance in ignition switch

Riiiiiiiight...
So seen as I've been well and truely schooled on that ;) (schooled get it?) anyway I gave this a read and some stuff makes better sense now. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/alternator3.htm
It also makes me understand how batteryless kickstarters work. I thought the alternator reg-rec combo charges the battery, and the power for the bike was drawn from the battery. I didnt realise the AC from teh alternator is what powers the auxillary and that the power stored in the battery is pretty much purely for turning the startor motor on fire up. See you learn something new every day.
However a bigger battery will still give me a better chance at fireing the bike up after I've been using my gadgets wont it? or will it im not quite certain - educate me.
Thumpertalk says its a 3phase 150w between alternator and stator, there is a 200w version knocking about from the 2000-2003 kicker only models but they're like hens teeth.
I'd considered making a new mini loom for my gps and heated grips with a new fuse box next to the battery base, not considered relay cos tbh I know feck all about it.

150w should be enough, depends what rpm it is making that at.
Bigger battery will give you better chance of starting it, but it is only a matter of time if you are slowly discharging it on the move.
I would use 35w HID and all other lights change to LED to save power. Switch to a decent reg rec, make sure all contacts are bang on clean and greased and possibly fit voltmeter to dash. Should be fine.
Relay is very simple device, wiki it or ring me.

Would a kit like that be suited? Or is this one better?

4200k is better, also some kits already have relay which makes life easier

Confused me then, both those kits were 6000kelvin. Searched again and came up with this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HID-Motorcycle-Slim-Kit-H4-3-Bi-xenon-Hi-Lo-4300K-35W-/260794615578?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb892071a
Utilises the existing bulb cradle, just pop the 3 pin adaptor into the standard hardness and hide away the rest of the new harness within the headlight shroud. Is that pretty standard for these sorts of kits, or is this a cheapo way of doing it?

Kinda good, kinda cheap. Like I say there are some with relay, they take feed direct from battery. That way your stock wiring only has to flow tiny current to trigger the relay which will cut down losses.

found one with a relay but the bulb is a 6k is this going to cause me a headache, should I request it be swapped out (or pay extra) for a 4.3k?
