View Full Version : Exhaust Sleeve 'Inner' - Does such thing exist?

Hi peeps,

I've been having some issues with my exhaust and trying to think of a long term solution.
The issues are due to my fuelling set-up, as I tend to get a fair amount of flames, which after going through the layer of packing:

Starts to discolour the carbon fibre outer sleeve
Due to the design of the exhaust / hanger, it has a little bit of movement which is letting exhaust gases out at the lower edge of the sleeve as the carbon fibre looses its shape on the lower edge

Ideally, I want to keep the carbon fibre sleeves, as I like the look of them, however, as I've already had the sleeves redone (shortened) I think if I change to carbon again I will get the same issues (Not the mention they're twin exhausts, and also twice the cost to sort out).

Is there such thing as an 'Inner' sleeve that I could use to put inside the carbon fibre sleeve to both protect the carbon fibre from the flames, and also make the exhaust more rigid, therefore reducing the movement and stop the escaping exhaust cases from by the sleeve?

Only reason it is not rigid is the carbon is knackered.

You could get a stainless sleeve and wet layup some carbon over top.

Do you think it would work by fitting a stainless sleeve with a slightly smaller diameter inside the carbon?
(To save the effort and cost of doing a wet layup ontop)

No, they would need new end plates with different OD to fit inside stainless.

triumph carbon can is a carbon sleeve fitted to a metal can.

Got to love using carbon to save weight :smt082

it is lighter! just no packing ;0)

they even welded the can so you cant repack it! great thinking guys !

Lighter than what? Stock?

Best ones seem to be ally sleeves like leo do, nice and light, easy to repack, crash well, cheap to replace. And they don't detonate themselves to death like carbon.

its about 1/3 of the weight of stock (which is back on cause my ears cant take it) and they weights about the same as the sv one. the carbon one is basically a 304 (i think) sealed liner with end caps. poor design imo ive sealed it better with some graphite gaskets and welded studs in.

Damn - quess I might as well to buy two cheap exhausts of the net instead.

Cheers though Chris! :)
