Or, more colloquially, Chimay.

I touted this a couple of years ago, and what with my ticket for this year having just arrived I might as well tout the event again this year.

http://www.circuit.be/manifestations_21_ClassicsBikes.html

It's three days of classic bikes being belted round an old road circuit (think the TT but much, much smaller) at ludicrous speeds, right next to the home of one of the finest beers in the world.

It's about 150 miles from Calais, starts on Friday the 15th of July and ends on Sunday the 17th. The agenda is roughtly as follows:

Friday: ride to circuit, pitch tents, watch racing, start drinking
Saturday: watch more racing, drink some more
Sunday: watch more racing, drink some more or ride home
Monday: ride home if you haven't already

It's well worth a visit, has that heady combination of booze, racing and foreign roads, and entry (including camping) for the entire weekend is about twenty quid.

I commend it to the house.

Any takers?

In 2009 I went and it was a fantastic weekend marred only slightly by Ogden being there :-)

It marred it for me too, but I'm kind of stuck with me.

Should be in Italy by then. Or France. Or Switzerland. Have made mental note: to get train back on Tuesday not Monday.

Having had a decent time at Chimay, I'll also be at Gedinne for the Belgian Classic TT on the 21st/22nd of August.

Not done this one before, so can't really describe it in any detail, but it's along the same lines of Chimay - old racing bikes being belted round a closed roads course, camping, drinking and general larking about. Entry is (I think) about ten Belgian Euros.

If anyone fancies going (and after the response to the Chimay post, I'll be surprised) then give me a heads up and I'll try to let you know where we're camping. If you're a lady who doesn't fancy camping there are still a few hotel rooms available within a ten mile radius.
