View Full Version : Help rear wheel internal spacer size (curvy)

Quick history I have put a curvy rear wheel on my pointy changed the bearings and spacer. All looked good but a problem has poped up. The rear caliper carrier rubs on the disk i have found out that the internal spacer between the bearings is longer on a pointy wheel than a curvy. So the bearings can move, so does anyone the length of the spacer on a curvey wheel.

if i'm not mistaken there is an order to put the bearings in. and i think that the disc side is full in then the sprocket side is pushed up to meet the spacer. but i could be wrong as usual.

Yea i did it that way but as soon a i when for a ride it moved back to the other way. I was hoping just shortening the internal spacer would fix the problem.

its possible while installing the left wheel bearing that you have moved the right one. the spacer should be a very slight 'slide' fit between the 2 bearings. did you use a press or socket and hammer method to install the bearings?

used the socket and hammer method but measured everything up and all was fine. The spacer is well tight not like on my pointy wheel abit loose as you say. That is why i think the curvy spacer might be shorter so both bearings can rest on the stops and when you do up spindal with the outside spacers and swing arm holds everything in place. its like the bearings are floating left and right

i think this is your problem right there. the bearing spacer should not be tight. if its to tight it will push the centre races outward and let the bearings run on the outer face which is bad. which will cause premature wear.

but i would wait till someone else gives a better opinion than me..
