View Full Version : Help needed with iPod!

I have a 120gb Classic iPod. It's about 18months old. Last night I attempted to sync it to add new stuff onto it - prior to the sync it was working fine but it's now not working. I attempted to play it and it was taking ages to try and play the selected song and then would, if I was lucky, play about 5 or 6 secs of the song before skipping.
I brought it back in and attempted to restore it but it's only put 13 songs on and then said that an unknown error had occurred (-53) and then it was "finishing syncing" for ages until I had to disconnect it myself.
Is it goosed or has anyone any idea how to sort this???

As i work in it it would be rude to not ask....
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Sorry.
Never been myself, but my mates who have had Apple related disasters have popped to the apple store and have had nothing but praise for the staff.

YES! And I have reset it and restored it.
Don't have an apple store within 120 miles of me!

Sucks :(
Is there an option to format the device then attempt a restore?

Don't be too sure.
From some other forums it looks like this is a common issue.
One person seems to have had some luck - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1346288?start=15&tstart=0
Have you got access to a mac?
It seems Windows might be a contributing factor.
I can't access Youtube as I am in work and it's blocked. But my Son had a similar problem and I resolved it by searching Youtube. There is a way of hard resetting the iPod Classics that you would never think of, and I found a guide on Youtube.
Sorry I can't post the link for you, but I hope this helps.
Try restoring it on a Mac. My 3g iPod Touch spazzed out after a firmware update on my Windows 7 PC and no matter how many restores I did it would fail halfway through. Hooked it up to the wife's iMac and it asked if I wanted to restore and clicked yes. Worked a treat, I could then plug it back into my PC and put everything back on.

I attempted the tips on that forum fruity with no success. Wayne, I shall try that today and Kenzie, I don't have access to a Mac, don't know anyone with one!

Could always send it to apple or some one who lives near an apple store.
Have you tried Apple's site.
If you need it dropping into apple's store in G'gow I'll be travelling up the M74 tomorrow at about 5pm, and will be travelling back down Tuesday afternoon if that helps...

Yeh Bri, no joy! Thanks for the offer but I am about 100 miles away from the M74. Offer is appreciated though!

I had the same problem aswell..it was driving me crazy http://forums.sv650.org/images/smilies/mad.gif
then i tryed syncing my ipod in disk mode and it worked http://forums.sv650.org/images/smilies/smile.gif
to get into disk mode hold down middle and menu and when the apple sign comes up hold down play and middle...it should boot into diskmode.
hopefully this will work for you
There's also this one...

...which I can't check as it's blocked at work (all 'blog' stuff is, ffs)
One comment I read about this had the author noting the harddrive made a grinding noise just before it popped up the error. Someone else said they had to just get it replace with another iPod at their friendly local Apple store.
Damn things... a guy in work was unable to get his Touch to stop repeating tracks. My Classic has frozen a few times too, and the 'peeeowww' sound of the hard drive freaks me out.

I will try the links but I have tried it in disk mode with no joy.
Try putting it in the freezer overnight.
Failing that, send it down and i will take it into the Apple Store in Londinium and see if they will swap it over.
My 1st Gen Nano still keeps going though. It has a reload of software avery now and again, but its happy sitting hrere playing music just now.

I cant remember the error code etc but IIRC mine stayed firm with a grey screen and a small warning triangle around a picture of disc. It got posted off to sweden for it to be fixed, came back with all my tracks etc still on it and working fine.
SO hope its not lost MBK

I had an issue with 2 i phones where they did an update on my new PC. Because they were not on the computer which was registered it locked them out. I had to dig out the old PC to re activate them. Best of luck whatever it may be.
