View Full Version : Biking Superstitions
Who's got'em?
I refuse to wear my Superman tee when going out on the bike. I think doing so would be tempting fate. And ironic headlines.:smt063

I am usually tucked away nicely to the right. However when im out on the bike i tuck to the left as the extra weight on the right makes my already sheoit right hand cornering even more unstable.
Will try just laying it on the tank today to see if that helps.
I never say "bye" when I go out, always "see you later."

Always wear respectable undies - lovely female doctors work in hospitals.... :(
Always wear my watch for some reason.

Don't ride your bike solo with the pillion pegs down - very bad luck.

Ha ha bravo. What attention to detail.
My only habit is to usually give it the ol sign of the cross, ace king queen jack - courtesy of a roman catholic upbringing. Then I go out and try not to rely on anything else but me.

OMG now im worried because I dont do anything in particular.... And this threads making me paranoid.... But if I start to do something now then that would be doing something I dont normally do and that might be tempting fate.... I think my brain hurts!!!
And I havent got anything to 'tuck away' to either side so maybe thats why im crap cornering to the left and the right

I rest the heel of my foot on them on the Mway and I'm not dead :)

Never 'lay it on the tank'. I just tried and the hood catches the wind and opens like a parachute! I am currently picking out the flies.

Went on my toast this morning.
no superstitions as such, but if I'm going on a long rideout (GM or AR) I'll wear my locket with pictures of my small person in them.
I also have a rainbow sticker on the kill switch which the small person put there.

I ride along and will occasionally push my indicator switch in 'just to be sure'... even if I haven't made a turn for ages and I know they're not flashing.
My mother agrees I shouldn't repair my 'CANADA KICKS ASS' t-shirt as I was wearing it when I had my off and it's now 'bad luck' and 'cursed'.
I always try and drop a decent fart as I swing my right leg over the seat. If I don't have one brewing I shift about in the seat for the first few minutes until I at least get a Little Tommy Squeaker out. After that I feel invincible.

I pat my tank when i get back from a ride and say good lad?
Nothing. Should spend the extra time giving the bike a better look over instead of this nonsense!

That's brilliant. Your wording couldn't be more comical :D
Superstitions
Always my left glove on first. The wrist strap then has to be between my index and middle finger before I do it up. I feel very uncomfortable if I don't do this.
I always say hello to her, regardless of whether we're going for a ride or not.
When I was hit up the jacksy in April, I was right in the middle of my lane. Now, being paranoid every time someone comes up behind me and desire to keep the SV in one piece, I now sit to the very left of the lane every time I stop.

You complete bar steward. I've just laughed so much I cried, beer went up my nose and my 10 year old lad has just come out of his room wondering what all the noise was. Cue Wifey, also tears streaming down her face, trying to explain that he was too young to worry about which way he packs himself into his pants!
On a more serious (?) note, I won't wear the jeans I wrecked when I crashed but I kept wearing the boots because they'd saved me from a broken ankle.

1 - Right glove on first, no matter what - something tells me it's my throttle hand, so should be put on first to be properly adjusted.
2 - As I set off on any ride, I'll stand up on the pegs for a moment (not a Rossi, mitts still on the bars) then sit back down. Stems from when I had trouble with my hips and knees - standing up on the pegs would sort them all out after hoofing up and over the bike. Now just feel unsettled if I don't.
3 - I always repeat 'It is better to brake too early, than too late'. as I set off, and if I get to a windy bit of road. Stops me from thinking I can push it too hard.

You have transmitted a superstition. I went out to the garage to check the rear pegs. Damn you Sid Squid, stop meddling with my mind!

Snap! I checked yesterday after reading it!
I can't think of anything in particular I do - although I do normally pat the dogs on the head and make sure I speak to them before I leave.
Don't do anything - well not that I know of.
Our parting syaing is alway ride safe!
I feel like Kelly Jo now and wondering what i should be doing!

At least I'm not the only one that does this... Don't know if its superstition or habit, but aren't they the same thing?

Nothing except for a 'thanks for not spitting me off' pat on dismount, or sometimes an affectionate faceswipe, occasionally a hug or a big huge kiss after ride in which she's saved my life by being better than I am :D
Don't ride your bike solo with the pillion pegs down - very bad luck.
and it also scuppers close filtering, no scratchy car bumpers thanks, and i agree
Never say "I hope it doesn't rain on Monday morning, as the car is stuck in the garage and I HAVE to take the bike to work, but it's OK we've had weeks of no rain round here so it'll be fine"
My waterproof textiles shall henceforth be known as 'textiles' :(

Wow Lol +1, I thought I was a bit nuts with this.
I'll repeat see you later until they too say "see you later" instead of "bye"
Bye sounds so final, see you later is much more appropriate.
Other one is same as with football - right boot goes on first.

Same, I checked this morning and one of mine was unusually down! Oh and thinking about it, I never say bye to anyone either, always 'see you later'.
