Hope you had a better time than me, got soaked, couldnt spectate due to them putting up advertising boards taller than me and one place you could spectate a marshall says you cant stand there, did find one place (think it was village maybe aintree) to stand and watched moto 2 which was cool but then just watched GP on a screen and went after that

What camera and lens were you using?

I'm going to photograph a track day at Snetterton soon, will be the first time I've done bikes. Normally cricket for me which is a bit slower!

Canon 5D MKII
Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
CanonEF 2x II Extender

Because of the Extender, the shots were in Manual focus. You also have to remember that everything is x2 including the f stop so you have to compromise on lens speed.

A nice man at Canon sent me a thank you present of a 60D last week so I'm learning what all the new buttons do on that as an upgrade to my 30D.

I'm going to use it with the 70 - 200 L series 2.8 IS and 2 x extender at the track day and see how I get on.

Might even try to use the video setting once I've read the manual.

LOL wish i knew a nice man at Canon... LOL.

The combination you have will be fine :) in fact you combination will give you what i have in my 100-400 lens. Most of my shots were taken at 400mm, but i had a nice view of Brooklands corner going around to Luffield and Woodcote which the 800mm came in very handy for.

I love my 70-200 2.8! :D I never take that lens off the camera day to day, but i wanted the extra range that the 400 gave me for the bike shots. The 70-200 is now back on the camera as it is great for shots of the dogs playing.

It is a shame that the AF doesn't work with my 100-400 lens and the 2x extender, but it was good practice for our honeymoon in South Africa next month... at least the lions wont be moving as fast as the bikes LOL so i'll have more time to manually focus on them LOL!! I'll be taking my spare 400D camera with the 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM and the 1.4 extender. I am just trying to decide what other lenses i should take with me LOL. Choices choices... hmmm cant choose i'll just have to take them all!! LOL!! Better go shopping for more memory cards too... 44GB might not be enough :p
