Speaking from inside the NHS, it is normally the consultants who get stick for ignoring infection control so good on him

I liked that, sometimes these politicians need gently reminding that they are not the centre of the universe. In fairness I don't think Cameroon and Cleggy meant any harm, but it's still a good reminder.

I recall a great example of a similar thing when English Heritage were having some works done here at Kenilworth Castle, quite involved groundworks with machinery and constructed ramps etc. The TV prog showed some airy-fairy Heritage bods marching in without hi-vis, hard hats, boots etc, and potificating about what was going on. The site manager spotted them and read the riot act, quite rightly, he was in charge and what he said went, they don't go on site without him knowing and signing them in, issuing protective wear etc. They suddenly all looked very sheepish. Does them good.

Good on them (the surgeon and the site manager from embee's story). I really don't like a bunch of ponces being taken on a tour of my workplace, looking over my shoulder while I'm trying to work. Likewise anyone doing fundraising or similar.

On one occasion a guy from one of the unions came in trying to recruit. We were all very busy dealing with a serious incident (a fire) and the incident controller told him it wasn't a good time. The union guy responded by saying 'surely they're not ALL dealing with the fire?' and was told yes, they are, now GTFO.

I think you'll find that having sleeves rolled up is part of the infection control policy. Arms should be uncovered below the elbow and there should be no jewellery or wristbands.

It has nothing to do with trying to appear "business-like" as it would appear you are trying to suggest.

It seems to me that the consultant was just throwing his weight around and showing off to gain some headlines - I've personally met his type on many occasions. I'm not saying that he wasn't right to kick them off the ward, I wouldn't want to be put in the position where I had to talk to a politician, but there are ways of doing it that are within the bounds of common decency and respect regardless of one's political leanings.

Correct - clearly correct in all fact, clearly politically inspired.

A decent person could make his point without all that bile, he made himself look a complete prat, and the inspiration for it is painfully obvious.

Speaking to those in the know, doctors themselves are a problem group in infection control - I wonder if idiot boy rants at his colleagues in this manner?

I doubt it.
