Hi All,

Just wondering what peoples preferences were for chain lube as I use sticky stuff which IS sticky but bloody messy. End up with black tar splattered over the back tyre, sprocket casings and side stand.

I use Silkolene stuff, seems to work well, makes a small mess, nothing on the tyre though. Any lube that gets on the tyre is very dodgy indeed, I'd stop using that one, or use less of it maybe.

Silkolene-Pro full synthetic, find this much better (and cleaner) than their normal semi-synthetic. Only gives minor initial fling off, easy cleaned off with GT85 after first ride then good until next lube.
[2 scottoilers sat in spares bin - life's too short :) )

Bike came with Castrol Chain Wax... it's fecking messy.

I now use my tried and tested PJ1 Blue Label which I love.

I'd not had this issue with Castrol chain wax, I'd buy it again

I have an aversion to spending money needlessly on chain & sprockets and applying lube every other day, so only one option.....scottoiler

Mine is too short to be *rsing about with sprays when I could be riding :)

Use less lube. You don't need much for it to do its job. Spray it on when you come back in from a run and the chain is warm. Less fling next time you are out.

Wurth teflon stuff is cleanest. 8-)

If you are too tight to buy a scottoiler the answer is used engine oil.
1.It's free
2.It works
3.It gets rid of old engine oil

The chain on my SV is currently on about 30,000 miles lubed this way.Yes I'm tight.

Ah yes, but if I'm down there polishing the shiny gold links anyway, spray lube is like a bit of after shave......;)

Scottoiler touring kit. Once it's fitted set your flow rate had forget about it. You can get an air lock every now and then but it's a quick fix.

Pro-oiler trumps the vacuum Scottoiler which has found its way to the old bike bits box. I am using ATF as the preferred lubricant.

Muc-Off Dry PTFE Chain Lube. I keep the can under my seat and give it a spray now and then. I plan on getting a scottoiler at some point but keep kidding myself I'll find a cheap one on ebay.

same for me, got enough of it sitting about after just one recent oil change, although not ideal for OP as it does fling off

Thanks for your comments.

I always apply after a ride but maybe a bit too liberaly.

Might go down the scottoiler route, though some people don't seem too impressed with them, looking at their posts.
