It is in a field actually, didn't say it couldn't be a field with a strip of tarmac running through it!!
Could you be a little more specific? What is that strip of tarmac commonly known as? :smt003
So it would be 'bike in a road running through a field' :smt042

There is a new tag now
"Bike in front of a Red Lion"

Yoink! my local is the Red Lion and is 100m away, so I just popped down for a photo....
New Tag, Bike on the coast.... gave me an excuse to post up a photo of my curvy (RIP). :D

I wouldnt dare step fr enough away from my bike to take a photo if I left it out side the nearest red lion to me. No sooner would my back be turned and some bugger would have stripped it for parts on ebay.
Really liking this thread although the bike in front of an obstuction was begging for something better than roadworks, but I spose it could be a real thread killer if you waited around for a pic of someone restricted due to aliens landing lol.

Please no one post a pic of the new tag, I'm off to the Somerset coast on Friday with some fellow orgers so would get a pic then :)
I live by the coast \\:D/ lol but i'll be good and leave it, seeing as you're going all that way :)

True,
But it had been around for ages and I was getting bored with it. Couldn't really find anything better than that.
damn... i was hoping to steal that one with a pic of the red lion in pendoylan... never mind on to the next but one then
Wee question for Mr. LP. :-)
Is that pic of bike on the coast taken on North Uist looking towards St Kilda? If so, I know that layby! Stopped there myself and took same pic. Can't find it to double check tho, and wouldn't be eligible as was taken 3yrs ago!

Yes you are :smt046
It was taken on the A493 North of Tonfannau (the funny little race circuit), looking north towards Snowdonia. Bloody good road too, bit gravelly in places...

Grrrr
Could have easily cruised the 12 miles over to town and got the pic and been back and posted well before beabert but ended up spending the rest of the afternoon riding.
Overcast and threatening skies for most of the ride but no rain and not as hot today.
Ended up quite a nice ride on some roads I don't usually travel so still a good afternoon even if I didn't get the pic posted in time. :riding:
Speed camera? Ha! Not complaining there are none of those here. :D

That's the ford, don't know exactly where Bulldog is, or even if it's callled Bulldog, but I know what Phil means. There's a custom bike builder who also sells HD's & stuff on that road. They have one of these massive American HEMI pickups which is too wide at the back wheel arches parked outside all liveried up. It's a blink and you'd miss it kind of place, tiny building sticking out of the trees.

Oi! I'm no pesky student :p
That pic has a fun memory attached, from the Isle of Skye a day after the GM. Just out of shot to the left is a crazy Irishman probably in his 60's... who had just told me off for overtaking them (he was with his son (who was driving), son's girlfriend, and a lady who I didn't find out what relation she was). The son had to pull his dad away from me after it was clear he wasn't going to stop ranting! The son and his girlfriend apologised to me (they didn't have to) and said while I was going "quick" and they weren't expecting anyone to whizz past, it wasn't unsafe as could see for a good clear mile there was zero other traffic or farm entrances etc.
(that and the throttle had been pinned in 6th for some time, took all of a split-second to get past them, did it again 15 minutes later as they left there before me as was checking emails/texts. i need to get back up to Skye and Ullapool again, was awesome even if the weather was shocking for the most part)

If you do come back, give us a shout. I'll do a guided tour of the secret best roads, lol!
christopher
03-08-11, 10:15 PM
Oh I'll be back for sure :D
Spent a few nights at Fort Augustus on my own to escape work etc. You have some wicked roads up there. Although it was everything, how friendly the people - including the police - were, how good every meal was, just the whole thing was great. Even the patchy weather didn't put a downer on it. And all the little things like the fighter jets overhead on the Wester Ross Costal Trail to Ullapool where one seemingly slowed down and followed the path of the road alongside me, the bits you couldn't plan no matter what you tried. Couldn't have asked for any better. Everything went to "plan" (not that there was one really!) like I caught the boat to Skye with 2 minutes to spare after planning on getting the later one after enjoying the road on the way and stopping for the fun of it etc.
(could go on about those few days, it was bloody brilliant)
It's only 400(ish) miles from here up to there, thinking of riding up one Friday in September, lots of fun on the Saturday, then shoot back on the Sunday. Hopefully extend it by at least a day but depends on work. I'll be sure to give you a shout when I figure out when I'm back!

I'm on a ferry next Sunday.
Bah, that was my idea too. :) Was going to see if I could get in a wee run up to Gourock for the ferry to Dunoon some time next week. The race is on!
It would make it a bit more interesting than a trailer pic. The idea is it's supposed to get you out on your bike after all.

Does going to Portugal count as getting out on my bike? Have I mentioned anywhere on the forum that I'm going to Portugal?
My ferry is not until 3pm, but if I get it I'll have to post by phone and the tag won't be set until I get back 10 days later.
You going to Portugal Ralph? You should have said.......;)
Meh, Portugal/Dunoon. It's all much of a muchness isn't it?
Normally I'd say I could nail that tag easily before Sunday but Mrs T still hasn't given birth. They're going to induce labour tomorrow so it's a question of how long it takes the wean to pop (technical term), then there's an unspoken amount of time that needs to pass between the birth of the child and ****ing off out on your bike for most of the day. :p
Good luck to you and Mrs Tam...
YC could have nailed this with his bike in his van at the AR. But i'd be worried about what he'd set as the following tag...lol

A motorcycle in the shed of doom
Got my pics on a cracking ride out today. Took the Largs road up to Gourock and caught the wee ferry over to Hunters Quay, then came back the long way round the road. The sun was shining, hardly any traffic, long sweeping twisties on a nicely surfaced road and then back home via Largs. (we'll gloss over the necessary evil of the Erskine Bridge/M8 stretch).
The memorial, to the Free French Naval Forces, is on Lyle Hill in Greenock - their home port from 1940-45. It's a Cross of Lorraine combined with an anchor, set on a granite plinth that symbolises the solidarity of the Scots and French people.
The inscription reads;
A LA MEMOIRE DES MARINS
DES FORCES NAVALES FRANCAISES LIBRES
QUI N’ONT JAMAIS CESSE LE COMBAT
ET SONT TOMBES GLORIEUSEMENT
POUR LA LIBERATION DE LA FRANCE
DANS L’HONNEUR ET PAR LA VICTOIRE
Which, roughly translated, is;
TO THE MEMORY OF THE SEAMEN
OF THE FREE FRENCH NAVAL FORCES
WHO NEVER GAVE UP THE FIGHT
AND WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES GLORIOUSLY
FOR THE LIBERATION OF FRANCE
IN HONOUR AND THROUGH VICTORY
Surrender monkeys? I think not. :salut:
One of my favourite places in the world to just sit. The views over the Clyde Estuary are fantastic. Natural beauty and the remains of declining heavy industry. It's where the word "juxtapose" was invented :). You can read the names of the ships lost to Uboats if you need to get your s**t into perspective.
I've not been up around any of these places for years but I won't leave it so long next time. It was getting the tag that led me to think about it so this thread is definitely working for me. :D

Putting a Japanese Misile infront of a WW2 memorial somehow feels wrong!
Trumpet owners required for next post plz.
But we're all friends now!
I thought about the possibility of offence before posting - that's why I specified a WW2 memorial as anything more recent might be raw for some. But the origin of the bike didn't occur to me TBH.
I hope using the memorial is not in bad taste or disrespectful. My intention was quite the opposite. We tend not to remember the part played by the forces of the occupied countries in their own liberation.

someone soooo needs to claim the tag, i'm tempted to deliberately find something like one of those just to claim it so we can have a change.
Go for it.
Then pick something easy. The idea is to get you out on your bike - if the tag is too difficult it defeats the object.

Good stuff - gets it going again, and a nice easy tag to chase. If the tags are easier then there's a race to get them.
I think we need to have a rule on no more cheats and driveway pics after this though (I'm anticipating someone posting a pic of their bike with a well known prawn flavoured snack).

Unless there are any stupidly hard challenges that no one gets for weeks on end........
Luckypants
29-09-11, 01:18 PM
The problem with the carousel was there are not that many around... I was up around Southport recently and could have got a picture, but forgot about the challenge... So most can be done, if anyone can actually be arsed to get out there to do it. I don't think the carousel one was 'stupidly hard', it just needed a bit of thought and effort (and in my case, a bit of memory!)
To me the challenge should involve a bit of thought and riding of your bike to get the tag. So I think driveway / garage pics should be banned unless the thing is stalled for weeks (as in this case).

I agree entirely. I seem to be doing a lot of riding, but always seem to end up in the middle of the countryside, or at work lol.
If I ever get the wheel back on the bike I've thought of a couple of good ones that can be done, and I dont think either of them are that difficult.

Had lots of ideas on the bike, one involved using it as a track bike, so put it back to standard.
I'm now going to use it as my winter hack. Sun was popping its head over the horizon this morning so thought I would take her for a scratch & give the Triumph a breather. 675 back end will probably go back on, but the headlights in the Buell front aren't the best for night riding, so will leave the single headlight on
