Dammit! While riding off a French mountain there was this proper French.looking bloke complete with ginormous moustache and beret wondering along, by the time I remembered the tag, we were passed and no room to turnaround... :banghead:

This guy, Mike?
WTF???
Just a moustache is bad enough.
Quite sure I'd not be asking a bloke wearing flowers in his hair and red nylons if I could take his picture standing next to my bike.
Oi, Puny, whats the next Tag? #?
has everyone given up on this?
Thunder in the Glen in Aviemore this weekend, bound to be some epic moustachios up there...

Does it have to be some random guy or can I just shave to give myself an amazing moustache?

Before I put the footboards on i'd agree 100% with you. With them on, I can muscle it round the bends a lot easier. Had good fun on it yesterday, kept up with quite a few bikes I had no right to :smt040

Hopefully won't be too long before someone fulfils it though. It is a pretty cool tag, just a little difficult. Did we ever get a referendum on the statute of limitations on tags?
Might be worth trying to define a "lifespan" for them and what happens as a fallback.

You could include things like giants causeway for those in NI, and I'm sure there must be a tip of a peninsular somewhere for those in Wales.

Congratulations on your purchase of a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Please note: "It's a lifestyle" so you may need to make a few adjustments starting with your kit.
That full faced lid will need to be replaced with a 'brain bucket'. Real men don't need helmets.
What you will need in addition to the brain bucket is a bandana to wear on your head.
You will need to grow your hair long enough to be put in a ponytail.
You will also need a leather jacket which should be adorned with either fringe (aka tassles) or conchos.
A harley davison t-shirt with the sleves ripped off.
Levi's with holes in the knees and/or assless chaps.
Work boots with laces.
You will need to wear this outfit at all times whether riding your bike or not.
(Note: brain buckets and assless chaps are too ghey for evryday life and should only be worn while riding)
Also to personalize your attire you should be prepared to show a little skin. Beer guts and butt cracks are always popular as well as mis-spelled tatoo's and odd facial piercings.
Congratulations on your purchase and remember, It's a lifestyle!

In much the same way as the vrod doesnt fit in with the Harley lot and their ideology on bikes (i.e too powerful, decent brakes, doesn't sound like a tractor) I still wear my rossi replica helmet while i'm riding the thing. Cue confused looks on peoples faces! So I don't normally get nods from the assless chaps or the power rangers.....

Trying to think of any other towns where it's named after a landmark.
MisterTommyH
16-12-12, 10:19 AM
There must be several, but they're likely to be smaller places.
A couple if the larger ones: Bath (and one of the historic baths it is named after),
Lands End (and the end of the land) - note it had to be the landmark though and not a sign with the writing on...
garynortheast
16-12-12, 03:23 PM
Wonder what Bristol's named after then.........
I suppose that would work with any Spa town.
Leamington pump rooms here I come!!
Well I would do if either of my bikes were on the road :/
MisterTommyH
16-12-12, 05:09 PM
Yeah, that would do Lenny. Provided that it was actually the Leamington Spa.
However I'm going to be a bit pedantic and say that unless there is an object called a Wensley (or a building or something similar) then Wensley in Wensleydale is just an area named after another rather than a landmark....sorry.
I'd also guess that most falls are named after the location ther are found in rather than the town being named after the falls... Unless there is some specific feature that means they are called that.... Again sorry :-/

The latest photo comp has made me ask a question that I have been wondering for ages myself.
Can you do a drive though on a bike?
Thoughts / Experiences?
I have done this, lots, I've done it at several McDonalds, a Burger King and a KFC. I also used to stop for fuel 20 miles out on the way home, whilst there, ring in a collection order from the Pizza Hut that was en route and it'd be ready by the time I got there. Same thing at the local Chinese and Indian restaurants. Not exactly drive through, but much the same thing.
Top tips;
1) Order over the intercom, rather than window 1 if given the choice. Once they've placed the order, they will unlikely want the hassle of cancelling it.
2) Choose Orange Juice or bottled water as your drink, unless you have a cup holder*.
3) Tank bag is best to place the food in, but panniers/top box are perfectly doable. If you just want the calories and don't care about it being a bit squashed, McDonalds meals can be stuffed into the lower back pocket of a HG Cruise Jacket.
The only negative experience I've had (once) was at the McDonalds I used to do this most often. My chapter of Blood Bikes used to routinely go there on the way to meetings as it was convenient for those travelling from work. Did it fine for months and then one day, the intercom didn't seem to work. I drove to window 1 and explained that the intercom wasn't working and they said it was, but that they weren't allowed to take my order as I was on a bike and it'd be dangerous. He wasn't able to explain why my putting a big mac, fries and OJ in a top box made riding a motorbike weighing a quarter of a ton on knobbly tyres more dangerous. He did claim it was McDonalds' policy.
Knowing how tightly controlled and procedurised everything is throughout all McDonalds franchises, either this one made it up, or the dozen other McDonalds I've done this at have been terribly negligent.
*Yes, this is a thing; popular with the Goldwing crowd. You can get a RAM Mount compatible cup holder. With a Telefrizer mount on your headstock bolt, you could do it on an SV.
in answer to your quesion, Yes !
I did the McDonalds in Catterick and @ Dalton Park.

There are two level crossings about 10 miles from my work, but, as neither of my bikes have insurance or tax I won't be fielding this one unless it is still here till May
Well Suffolk is pretty flat so I will have to try the next tag that comes up.
I've shifted it on, forgot about this!

No. They were taken during the summer at Boscombe, and the other on the way back from Germany
Then I'm afraid it don't fit with the rules for this game. The rules (and lengthy discussion about them!) are at the start of the thread. Here they are for folks to read again....
"Ok so here is the deal. Im trying to start this picture game up for all us riders. the object of the game is try to be the first to post the picture of the challenge. Someone will make a challenge (i.e. your bike in a garage) first to post the picture chooses the next challenge. here are the rules....
1. The person starting the tag must post a pic of their own as the challenge. this cuts down on overly difficult or ridiculous challenges. IE: your bike and snow IN JUNE.
2. File photos allowed for starting a new tag, a new pic must be taken to capture a tag.
3. The freshly taken Photo must include tag object and bike
4. Get rid of the time limit rules. If the tags are any good, there will be no need.
5. No voting. If another participant agrees with the tag, it's good. Move on, it's supposed to be fun and moreover, AN EXCUSE TO RIDE!"
I'll edit your tag and re-post the rules in the thread so folks get the gist.
You pipped me to the post yesterday ;) lol...
so I've posted a couple up from the run out over Hartside.
I'm not being funny, but before the 'hill top' photo is a 3 year old photo of a speeding ticket ;) If photos have to be current, then it shouldn't have been allowed?
