Not quite home, having a few days further north to play (assuming the weather improves!). Up at Fort Augustus at the moment. It's raining unsurprisingly. In the pub with beer and grub. Thanks all for a decent weekend, was good fun!

Dave and I home safe and sound... got back about 7. Waterproofs came off and weren`t needed again after stopping somewhere near Stirling. Took motorway stirling to Carlisle then A roads thru Lake District.

Thanks Stu and everyone for a fantastic weekend and a great rideout. Campsite was brilliant and the accommodation top notch... the food in that restaurant was scrummy!!! Look forward to doing it again next year \\:D/

Cheers for the lead down, my satnav is hard to see at the best of times let alone in the wet and my sense of direction is non existent.

And cheers for the lead up!
Just take it easy mate and get there safe. Atleast the rain'll keep the heat out of the tyres...unless you were backing it round corners?

Home safe a few hours ago. Was bloody biblical! My boots filled up to my ankles!

Riskiest and most hair raising part of the trip obviously being stopping at daveprestons house without it involving 12 pints and an overnight stay!

Got back to Scotch Corner about 30 mins ago after parting ways with SV4ME at some road in some village.

Let's see, to sum it up:

Dukes Pass, ****ing wet, hit huge puddle, both of us soaked
Great ride back following dave, few hairy moments but for the first time they all felt predictable and not "Ahhhh I'm going to die" etc
Left Dave, (after being eaten by huge flys), found 3 sheep charging at me hot out of a corner, then an OAP couple in a Yaris horizontal arcross both lanes doing (a very poor) 3 point turn. Hard on brakes, poo pants, etc. Starts raining (again), forget I put summer gloves back on and proceed to smear hundreds of miles worth of insects across my visor. Vision now reduced to a blue bottle's **** in front of me.

Arrive at Scoth Corner, go into room which is 9000c and only 1 Window works.

Aaaaand that'll be my dodgy disc lock alarm going off for no reason.

Again.

Mega thanks to everyone, will post up about that later, need shower and food!

Home a few hours now,had my tea and fell asleep watching MotoGP.

Rode to Dunoon and got wet down to my undercrackers, dried out and tumbled dry all my gear, 5 minutes ride to the ferry in stair-rods and was soaked down to my undercrackers again!!!! Sun came out at Ayr and had a fantastic ride over the hills back home.

Glad to hear all made it home safe.

Chickened out of the NorthWest passage run after a warning from the bike just before & in Aviemore.
More lights than a fruit machine on the panel!
Finally capsized on the M73 under M8 after what looked like the northern lights & no signs of life.
Since nothing was going to move, took all luggage & seat off & found earth wire barely attached to battery & full service resumed after attack by cross-head screwdriver. Didn't miss a beat after that, but carried on to Gretna & then Longtown as wanted to got journey over with & wreck tyres so's can get something grippy in the wet! :D retraced Friday's steps via Brampton, Alston, Middleton-in-Teesdale & then Helmsley TT so haven't lost the plot altogether. Very steady though!
Got back about 8 after one of my more adventurous rides ( & think I saw YC who at least had the courtesy to salute in time-honoured fashion )
Somewhat jaded now - hardest bit was how hot it was in textiles.
I'm off to bed now!

Was REALLY hoping it was loose connection & my fault for not doing owt about it before mounting luggage ( that sounds a bit dubious )
And Lance, was trying to lay claim to your bit of road as well as mine! ;)

GM's not over for us all yet. I'm a bit pished. 2 cans of Stella left in the fridge. Down them, fry up the morn, THEN it's over.

DavieSV's programming FJRTony's sat nav to ignore motorways and prefer towpaths so you'll hear from them in a fortnight. :)

Got back yesterday - soaked - Almost caught up Gerbrox at Stirling but not quite thou Chucca didn't pass me which was good :-)

Managed to go flying past a bike cop about 80 but I had just appeared from behind a caravan so I assume he realised that I was just doing to get to get past and get visor cleared again.

However the idiots in Focus's just continue!

Twas a good weekend and Yup Chucca you missed it!! as always I may just get some photos up

Left campsite at midday, Iain and me home safe by 6pm last nite. Got pished on every minute of the journey. Massive, probably 300+ queue tailback at Corran due to a diesel spill sending a Caterham into a tree, split the car in two. A real mess. Hope he is ok, spoke his mate who warned us about the diesel pool. Thank-you!
Lunch in Ft Bills then onwards with relentless rain. Stormforce winds on Skye and proper chucking it down (well sideways really!) at which point my boots gave up the fight and let the weather in. Walked in the door to the aroma of homemade tandoori chicken. Fabbo.

Great fun all weekend long, thanks all for the continued excellent GM experience. Roll on GM V!

Typically, sunny n calm today but my gear will take a week to dry.

I dont know DB, I was just following sv4me :) We went through a village centre up a 90 degree vertical (ok maybe not but it was very steep) cobbled street and I was just hoping the car in front didnt stop :D We stopped just outside the village, then chatted for ages while getting eaten by flys. Then parted ways and neary died as previously mentioned!

Ar$e is fine, arms feel like they are made of jelly! I regretted the decision to leave about 10 mins after I left lol. Kept the speed up to keep it interesting. Lots of stops to wake up and stretch!

Leanrt a lot, was a great experience and would do it all over again next week if I could. Looking forward to exploring more of the Scottish roads!

At least now I can judge how I cope with distance riding :) which is not very well :D

I'm sure I will :)

The road I continued on after we parted ways led me to a terrific road in the hillside, with cattlegrids and roaming suicidal sheep, if that helps you pinpoint the road ;) I'm fecking useless with directions/road names and geography in general.

Its 34c here in harlow right now according to my car themo - just to think yesterday I was freezing my titties off in the rain....

Sounds like Alston, Hongman, was there about 5.30 & then on to Middleton in Teesdale. Some barsteward had woken all the sheep up and they were inspecting each other's back ends. :o
Beaten me to it, Hongman.

27-06-11, 04:22 PM
Twas indeed Alston, I pointed Hong in the direction of Middleton in teesdale while I just had the crappy old Hartside road in the dry with zero cars to play on ;) by the time i'd done kirkstone (again free from cars) I was in 2 minds whether to mway the last bit home or stick to A and B roads. I chose the latter! Got in just after 11 absolutely knackered but grinning from ear to ear :D

Had a great weekend both on and off the bike, big thanks to Stuart and Dean for all their hard work. Oh and Lance for sorting the caravan for us you're a star mate

Now if you could just move the Kinlochleven loop to on my doorstep so I could go play on it every day \\:D/ I'd be much obliged. The 2nd loop I did with YC just behind in hot pursuit is definitely 1 of those moments that will stick in the mind even when i'm old and grey!

That was a brill weekend, apart from my chain attempting to part ways with the fazer and getting royaly soaked! Next year i will have a bike that actually works (unlike the R1) and doesn't fall apart like the fazer! :P

Want to try them foam pads, Tam?

I'll try anything! I was seriously falling out with it on Saturday.

The gel pad didn't really help TBH. I took it off for yesterday's 140 mile run and then put it back on for the next 110 without much noticeable difference.

Jealous...was it dry?

Yeah it was cloudy but dry. I set off mid-morning and the roads had dried off nicely - just a wee bit damp under the trees on the loop. Had a bit of drizzle for 10 minutes on the way back to Tyndrum but that was it. :D

Stuff. Bit of a numb bum though.

Airhawk. I have Gel rider and pillion seat, i've fried foam pads and horse riding pads. I HAVE NOT TRIED airhawk but everyone i talk to who has cannot praise it highly enough. Its a bit expensive for my taste and will continue to put up with a moderate level of discomfort.
thats me however, you obviously spend a lot of effort and money on your bike (stunning btw) so a little extra for your own comfort....

Got back at 1am this morning - new tyre lunch time yesterday, ran it in over Rannoch Moor, then did the rest of the ride out to Aviemore, then onto past the Lecht and Glenshee. With a bit more fun in the borders and a bit of Motorway I got back - 522 miles yesterday :-)

Now in work, with some aching muscles. Next year I'll make sure I have some tyre left before heading north!
