So will be out of action for a while, I've broken my thumb and slid the bike on her left side, ruining the lowers I'd just put on her :( I'd happily ride her again its done nothing to put me off its just ruined my day

I've been told I've no been initiated as a true biker now. All I can say is I thank my stars I was in full gear. Only thing truly hurt is my thumb and my baby.

Ouch also, glad you ok bike will mend etc. Gws. You make a mistake fella or get shoved off? I came off mine a couple of years back at 60 on a bend (i ran out of talent) and ended up with some broken ribs torn shoulder blade muscle etc so it teaches you a few things. Welcome to the club ;)

I braked as did the car as it came over the crest and gravel appeared on the centre of the road and the bike just slid out from under me (there was no gravel on the centre at the start of braking you can see I hit it and just dropped as I was already under brake). It was on a single track country lane and we were both being sensible. Because of the location had it been a 4x4 going 60MPH it'd have hit my bike on the floor then probably me. She was an off duty police woman and was very happy I was in full gear and wasn't riding like a ****, only about 20-30mph when I came off.

I hit a gravel drift once at slow speed so i know how much fun that is :( I slipped on a manhole cover on my off just going into the bend lost it and stupidly grabbed a handful of brake which sat the bike up and threw me over a hedge doh! So i keep an eye out now as best i can for manhole covers, gravel etc.

Bullox to not being a true biker unless you've binned it. It sucks and that's all there is to it.

Good that you're (mostly) okay, GWS.

I always try and stay out of the middle of country lanes, but that said, you can get crap all over the place on country lanes. Unlucky mate, glad it's only your thumb, though I hope it's not your usual working hand because it will be a right pain doing day to day stuff for a while.

Bad Luck Matey, enjoy making your baby a project and fixing her up all nice again.

With your hand though, that is more serious, hope it wasn't your "special" hand, other wise things are going to feel a little strange for a while!

Get well soon and get that bike sorted, Pointy Plastics look great on a Curvy!

Sending hugs too! XXX ;-)

Yer, thanks for the well wishing, its not my stranger hand, luckily as I work on the computer I'd have been a bit f**ked. My hands rather Purple and sore and the thumbs now got three screws in it forever and ever which went in Friday. She's got a fair bit of damage and doesn't start I'm not quite sure what to do.

Like every panel on the left needs replacing and the mirror could do with a new rubber/replacing. The bar end snapped off and dented the tank so they'll need work. Lower fairing on a curvey are rarer than a Tourist driving the limit in Devon! The bike seems ok but wouldn't start, Datatool 3 maybe interferring but the alarm doesn't go off and these are ****** enough it is. The gearing and such all snapped off too, Framework of the bikes intact with some yellow marks bedded in.

Shes in the local Recovery Yard and going off to Surrey to be fixed under the insurance but I don't what they'll say because she's an 11 year old bike and now getting emotional as I was quite attached to her. It was bad road surfacing and unlucky timing that meant she slipped out from under me. Just reinforces how much I hate single line countrylanes. :(

As a pre warning for your poor little scroller on your mouse these are the images of the little damage I sustained.

After she was picked up they decided no to using the kick stand and yes leading her on the hedge which made me LOL

Thing is she should still look like this on this side unless the insurers have damaged her.

Sorry again for spamming the forum with pictures but I wanted to update you. The insurers claim it to be a write off too much to repair to the value of the bike ... You can see the bike in the pictures its some panel scratches. I just want my baby hope so I can get her repaired and happy again. I won't be able to ride her for another month still anyway plus I'll need a new helmet.

Anywho I miss riding and the Forums as close I can get to the action :(

I did my thumb in my accident a while back, sucks.

Anyone else (particularly round Bristol) noticed they've gone mental with the bus lane resurfacing and that rubber chipping stuff is everywhere! Really bloody annoying

YellowMonkeyBoy
14-07-11, 10:27 PM
Be glad its rubber, Everywhere and I mean everywhere in Devon they've been rechipping just scattering this gravelly **** everywhere. Really rather annoying hopefully once I'm back out they'll be done and the summer won't be over

Just read the whole thing and your broken bike post.

sorry to hear/see this. Hope you recover soon.

As for the bike - if they do write it off you could buy it back and sort it out yourself? Make sure everything is straight and turn it into a nekkid?

Just read the whole thing and your broken bike post.

Wow, you're either very bored or very bored, she won't turn into a Nekkid. They can't write her off without giving me money they can't even claim it to be not road worthy if they don't want to repair it. Will go down as an accident but no claim to be made and have the bike back and repair her myself. I'll ofcourse get a qualified person to make sure the work I've done is all ok and such but that way she won't get any kind of CAT on the bike and such its silly really as I can't get in contact with them until Monday now and I just want to chase them up so they send me back my bike so I can repair it if they won't!

Its infuriating really if I'd have thought It'd never have been sent off but I was in a Fell on my head pretty hard not thinking straight for about a week (well as straight as you do when your mind is all about Curveys and riding on Bends). ARGH I want her home :'(

Hope you GWS. Spend a little time working out the cost of repair and see if you can buy the bike off the insurance co, you never know it may be worth it. I've owned bikes that I've spent daft money on to keep on the road out of (for want of a better word) love. The insurance will always right of bike of this age and then give you the "market value". Then they put your premium up next year to get "their" money back. Fully comp for older bikes just isn't worth it.

Mr Speirs
17-07-11, 07:57 AM
That won't cost much to repair. Second hand plastic, new clip on and new brake lever and you're done!! You came off worse than your bike.

TBH I'd ask them to stop the claim right now. You'll pay more on premiums next year than the cost to fix it.

Don't worry too much about fixing it up. I had a bad crash last year on my old yellow SV, obliterated the entire front end. With a bit of help from the org I had it all sorted out in good time. Before my accident I had never used a spanner in anger on a vehicle, it will be a good learning experience for you. Get familiar with ebay.

Thats what I thought but their call line doesn't operate on a Saturday or Sunday so will be calling once home until I have confirmation my Bike is on its way home and there will be no claim made just an accident on record. Which shouldn't be too bad its insurers that hate Claims not accidents after all, I do feel I came off worse but the bikes going to pull through, just a question of getting her home. Shes spent too long away when I get her back here and figure out why she wouldn't start and I hear that first Roar I think I will Jizz in my pants for the second time ... The first being the first time I started her (Sold to me as a non-runner)

They'll dislike accidents too - because accidents = claims but hope it doesn't smash you too much.
