yes-cause the football coverage is very good-your looking at the reporting from a moral standard point of view but in my experience every journo is a sleekit two faced back stabbing rat that would sell their granny to get a story-if you decide to cease reading a newspaper because the tactics they use don't agree with your morals you'll end up having nothing to read.

The things the tabloids do to get their stories is work of scum IMO, fook them, they ain't getting nothing off me.

Btw, the guy involved in the milly dowling thing should be jailed, he over stepped the line and an example needs to be made to show others the boundaries they don't cross.

Well found, just signed that.

Re the latest NOTW debacle specifically, I haven't read a tabloid since I was an 18 year old student reading the Sport and that was only for the stupid stories and the t1ts (I was young, what can I say)! I already thought the Scum was just that, long before they managed to alienate the entire city of Liverpool, not to mention fans nationwide. That just confirmed what I already thought - that they'll print anything to sell papers, regardless of the truth.

I've no idea what Rebekka Wade is like, unlike Nostrils who confirms what I'd have suspected anyway, but even if (and it's a bl00dy big IF) she didn't know what was happening, she still has to go. The tabloids and the broadsheets spend half their time saying that X should resign because they were in charge when Y happened - it should apply to them too. She was in charge so she should resign, end of. The most depressing thing is that all the papers are so **** scared of starting a war that none of them will really go for the NOTW properly. The editors all have so many skeletons buried, none of them want to attack another too openly.

Anyway, to conclude, all newspapers are varying levels of toilet paper and an awful lot of people who work for them should be in jail. Here endeth the rant.

don't watch the news and i don't buy news papers. so i have no idea what you are on about.

Let me fill you in then, briefly.

In the passed few years there have been a number of "celebrities" - i use that term in the loosest possible way - have had their phones hacked. Private details, voice mails and the like have been accessed. Until now its been mostly met with apathy by General Public. Now allegations have arisen that one chap in the employ of NOTW hacked into the phone voice mail of Milly Dowler, a schoolgirl who at the time of the hacking had gone missing. Natually the network used was able to tell that her phone had been accessed giving her parents hope that she was still alive and getting her messages (the poor girl had been murdered by a man who had already killed other girls it later transpired). Can you imagine what they went through at the time? And this man hacked her phone to get a lead on a story. Nice eh?

And the latest allegations today are that this very same man hacked into the phones of the families and victims of the 7/7 bombings. A new level of low has been dug by this "News" paper.

AndyBrad

I dont know to be honest, so I can only judge on whats been reported and form an opinion based on that. I cant imagine the Editors of the Observer or Grauniad or Times (despite its ownership) would allow that sort of behaviour, which is also why the abhorrent Rebekah Brooks needs to fall on her sword and Andy Coulsen be thrown in prison

I'm not actually sure what it will take before their readership actually realise what utter sh!te it is that they print and buy something else instead.

Unfortunately, and I bet I'm right on this... it'd be the removal of the Page 3 girls, which - well I don't know where to start and if I did, I wouldn't know where to end my rant so I'll just sigh and not bother.

I think the bigger question is, just because there might be unknown others doing this, should the NoTW/SUN reporters and editor avoid punishment. If they do avoid it, what message does this send?

I'm generally against reporting censorship but methods of garning information do need to be ethical.

I don't buy either newspaper, not for ethical reasons but because the reporting and opinions are mostly claptrap.

Gets worse and worse.I can almost hear the senior management screaming for the "anyone but me"scapegoat to be unmasked asap.
They have had to admit giving Met Police officers money for information because it was in Cameron's sidekick's emails. That in itself is a criminal offense but no surprise that the Police didn't notice anything in their investigations. Also interesting is that the Sun chose not to report the story on the front page like every other paper, but to bury it on some inner page.I wonder what they have to hide?Even other Murdoch outlets have had to give it due prominence. This has the makings of one of the biggest scandals in decades, not just because of what happened, but because of who has been covering it up and why.

I'm not at all surprised by the daily announcements of yet another scandalous piece of work to gather story leads from the next unsuspecting victim. The Hugh Grant interview on TV this morning where they also spoke to the alledged 'reporter' that admitted all this stuff just about said it all. This is a widespread accepted activity within media circles, assisted by greedy officials and police officers, no doubt some people who are in some way connected to the 'victims' of these activites also took the odd back hander along the way.

Its time for all media related organsations to adopt and abide by a decent set of business principles. Phone hacking is one part but what about pictures from agencies gathered by papperazzi with monster zoom lenses or that camp outside somebodies house to catch that all important photo. None of them give a cr@p, they would never do the job that they do if they did.

Vote with your feet and if you buy a newspaper buy one whose ethics you are happy with. The number of times I've seen somebody commenting on how disgusting a newspaper story is whilst holding the paper in their hand....

There is a default PIN for remote access. Hardly anyone changes it because they only access their messages from their own phone so all you need to "hack" someone's voicemail is their mobile number then try the usual PINs - e.g. 1111.

If you're worried about people accessing your messages, dial your voicemail service, go into the settings menu and change your PIN

No, it;s not.

I read Baby Murdoch's statement. Breathtaking hypocrisy I thought, especially the bit about giving all the advertising space in the final edition to good causes. Nothing will change, all the rubbish will just get spread throughout the week in The Scum instead until they eventually launch the Scum on Sunday, which Rupert Murdoch was talking about wanting to do decades ago. Now he can blame other people for closing down NOTW for him.

anna
07-07-11, 05:04 PM
Just because the paper has closed doesn’t mean that is the end of this.

The police investigation is still in its infancy in this matter, and I would speculate that there are a fair few more skeletons to come out of this nasty closet.

Sadly, at a time when the economy isn’t so great, the NOTW has just made a good many journalists that had nothing to do with this scandal unemployed. Not that I am a fan of this particular paper, or with the morally questionable Murdoch empire, however I certainly don’t think that good people, who had nothing to do with these matters, lower down the chain should be punished either.

Yup and the knock on effects of it - It will be a least a shift at printing till the sunday is reprinted ( less money to pay for a saturday shift!)
I feel sorry for those not involved in this. I think that nothing will be resolved just people kick out - Hope the lynch mob feeling takes effect

It like all the public sector workers being tarred with the same 'idle' brush.

She's somehow gotten bigger hair than Macy Gray.

"It will just come back with a diffrent name, do they think we a stuped or what"

"maybe all you sheep that pay out millions to watch all the repeats day in and day out should tell this crap family to shove there tv channels where the sun dont shine and start hitting them in the pocket asa thats the only thing they understand"

"I LIVE IN NORTHERN IRELAND AND I NO FOR A FACT THAT RUPBERT MURDOCK TOLD HIGH RANKING MEMBERS OF STAFF 4 WEEKS A GO TO CLOSE THE PAPER <,FACT ASK HIM>"

Only those that are 'needed' keep their roles in this sort of scenario. we all know she should be shot, but unfortunately there is something she has that is needed for purposes we know nothing of.

Either that or shes shagged someone she shouldn't have, and therefore can blackmail herself out of it:rolleyes:

Interesting comment in the Telegraph today that Brooks being spared just now means that there's still a buffer before you get to the Murdochs, and she can still be dumped later if needed.

Just because the paper has closed doesn’t mean that is the end of this.

The police investigation is still in its infancy in this matter, and I would speculate that there are a fair few more skeletons to come out of this nasty closet.

What you don't see a new newspaper called "SUNday" replacing this within a very short period of time with almost the exact same staff, putting almost the same money into the Murdoch Empire?

From Twitter: "Closing the #NotW but keeping Rebekah Brooks is like catching someone for drink-driving, letting the driver off but punishing the car"

Wifey and I reckon she's shagged James Murdoch! Find another explanation for this statement:

"I am satisfied that Rebekah [and] her leadership of this business and her standard of ethics and her standard of conduct throughout her career are very good," James Murdoch said.](*,)

From Twitter: "Closing the #NotW but keeping Rebekah Brooks is like catching someone for drink-driving, letting the driver off but punishing the car"

:winner:That sounds about right

I have to say that the irony of the latest to come out of the NOTW camp is a journalist dream..

So you have a highly immoral scandal regarding phone hacking and obtaining illicit information about people without their knowledge; whilst defending their positions and stating that it was only their predecessors wrong-doings that they are now being punished for, decides to obviously show their own highly ethical stance, by recording their now ex-boss giving them a swan song without her consent or knowledge.

On the other hand you have a CEO who had already given her staff their marching orders the day before, and then comes back the day after to have another bite of the apple, saying that she will do everything she can for them, to a room of "hard hitting" reporters who clearly need their own severance pay secured for them, sadly with the close of NOTW its amusing that sky was the first to release the tape in full, I wonder how much they paid for that :)

WTF is this with people spelling their name wrong on purpose?
I remember the first time I experienced it was when I worked on a set at Pinewood, the producer introduced himself as 'Mark with a C' , so any correspondence with him I always used 'Dear Mark with a C'

I've got a mate who for the last 20 odd years has been called Markmarknormallyjustlikeeveryoneelsedoes by his closest mates - it's a long and probably quite boring story. You had to be there I suppose.

Not a chance. I only sleep with nice ladies. The fact she's a ginger isn't of any importance, she'd still have to be a nice person... which she most definitely is not.

I'm not defending the hacking, but I worked with the NOTW sports guys and they do a good job and are now unemployed.

Last year they brought to light the match fixing within the Pakistan cricket team. We all knew in the industry that illegal betting was rife in Pakistan and India and that someome was cheating but the ICC and Pakistan board did $od all about it and it took 3 journalists at the NOTW to publish enough damning evidence that the ICC had to take action.

It was a dark time for cricket, but the game is better for it and the reward for those journalists is the dole queue. So far for them there is no news of a new Sunday publication replacing the NOTW with nice new job to go with it. If a new title is launched it sounds like they plan to make the Sun sports writers do a 7 day job rather than 6 for the same wages or they know where the dole office is too.
