Get off with Polish birds. They are very friendly and hard working.

Turn around and head off to another country immediately on arriving there. Well it's what so many of the natives have done.

Where are you going in Poland?
When I was there there were pretty ladies sat on chairs on the main highways, in entrances to little nearby woods. High heels and hot pants seemed fashionable, can't imagine what they were selling, wildlife trails, bird watching ;)
Bit like saying "I'm going to England, what should I do there?"
Where you're going is pretty key :)

M@sterbate furiously.
Well, if you watch any of these Brits abroady type holiday programmes it appears that most British people that go to Poland spend their time there being a complete w@nker...

North east Poland in two hours from Berlin? Impossible :smt104
Avoid Invading Germans
After that, then Jambo is your man for info as he has spent a fair bit of time there.

beautiful place, as said where abouts. If its a touristy type place get a sightseeing tour done one morning then spend the rest of the time relaxing and taking in the place. Love it!

Drink the excellent beer (Zyweic), eat the fantastic sausages, have your way with the pretty girls. Oh, and there's some scenery too, or something.

Great shout - see also 'Tyskie' too on this note, very very nice indeed.

If you make it to Krakow and are feeling peckish, then go to the main square and look down each of the many narrow streets leading onto it and on one you shall see a kiosk about 20/30yards down on your right hand side where they sell the nicest pita bread kabab things you've ever tasted - I would literally detour through there just to taste one of these delights again.
And just because its rare to be so close to it I recommend a visit to auschwitz, its an education which puts to bed many of your preconceptions about the place.

Firmly on my 'to do' list is to ride to Poland and pay a trip to Aushwitz.

\I wasnt as touched by it as the others, most sat silently on the return coach trip but it did still put in perspective the scale of the whole thing.

I'm guessing with the 'ski bit on your username you're a fellow Polish descendant then? I'm really not sure exactly how I'll react when I finally get to see the place tbh. I know that a few of my ancestors were wiped out there (my Grandad's parents), so it'll certainly be a bit eerie to say the least.
One of those things that I really want to do, but at the same time really not looking forward to doing it, if that makes sense?
there's quite a few things to see in poland..warsaw is worth a visit. see the mountains in the south at zakopanie and the lakes up in the north east near elk, or the seaside in the north west.
do you know any basic polish phrases? that will make your life much easier

Don't forget Katyn. If my grandfather had not been lucky enough to escape he'd be in there too with his fellow officers.

I see why you'd think that but no the 'ski' bit on the end of my name is a short but boring story, im of English heratidge my name is matt owen, owenski is just a nick name adapted from my surname.
Still you dont have to come from decentents who were once residents of the camps to apprechiate the significance of what went on there.

I'm going to be West Poland, which is two hours to Berlin by train. I'd like to find something like good places for drinking, clubs, art, cluture, live music ect somewhere to go cycling would be great too.
I'm not sure how much free time I will have, I hope to have enough for at least 2 days a week, it will depend on how filming goes really.
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, its been a mental week with other shoots, packing, moving ect.

Not sure what free time time I will have yet, hopefully enough to go have a look around.

I'm still in Poland, one more week to go before I drive back.
Went Colditz yesterday which was a long drive, but a really good day out I have photos.
Not really had much of chance to look around here, been too busy filming. I have experinced Polish wedding, which hasn't been good. The only day off we generally get they play really bad music, very loud not great at 1am when you need sleep.
Oh edit! Vodka gets you drunk and does it very well, hangovers do happen with it one of crew didn't look best after it!

Well I finally made it back, long drive which wasn't too much fun the hire van was in a bit of state, not much worked!
I didn't get to see much of Poland, working 12 hour days doing a 6 day week doesn't leave much time to get out. I'm happy to be home living in a hotel was hell, so I'm now living the dream watching a moive at home on the sofa with a hot chocolate which I have wanted to do for past 2 weeks!
The film is about the Great Escape, it will TV either at xmas or some time next year. It was a great experince, worked with some great people.
Poland its self I found interesting the town of Zagan is a small town so not much happens...I didn't make Aushwitz it was just simply too far to drive in a day. I did go to Colditz which was interesting, that was about 500km round trip.
Thx for the suggestions, hopefully in the future I'll get the chance to exploxer the country or that area of the world.
I went to Poland in 1984, what a stunningly beautiful country. I particularly liked the salt mines near Krakow, can't remember how to spell it, dyzio will know, but it sounded like 'vill-eech-ka'.
Auschwitz - I went very close to the place and didn't go in. Not for me. This is just my personal opinion, OK, so don't start jumping on me. I'm not sure why anyone would want to go, I personally think it ghoulish and distasteful to go and gawk at a place where so many people died. Not just died, but were subject to such brutal inhumanity. No. *shudder*

Hmm, I kinda get that Ed. I visited NYC in 2004 and we visited Ground Zero. I am glad I went. I didn't expect to react the way I did though. I just stood in silence, with tears dripping off of my cheeks. The emotion was indescribable. What really made my blood boil though, was the way you had people selling pictures of the incident, pictures of firemen, policemen, office workers etc who are more then likely victims of the event. To attempt to exploit something like that for money is, well, I can't actually think of the right word to describe it.
Not sure if I would visit a place like that again. Whilst I know I have nothing but quiet respect for the dead, it concerns me that the person standing gawking next to me may just be fulfilling some morbid, goulish fantasy.

I forget to mention the German roads, I got Berlin very quick 200km/hour that was fun. Though on a bike it would be boring.
