View Full Version : Peterborough to Oswestry

Hi guys,

Im travelling to Oswestry Friday afternoon/evening and was wondering if anyone could kindly suggest a nice route excluding motorways! Ive had a look at the map and its not obvious which the best way will be.

I'll probably take A47 Peterborough to Leicester and was thinking A50/A511 but we did that on a Friday last month heading to the Peaks and traffic was dreadful.

Im happy to go around the houses and take my time, will leave Peterborough at 4 and dont need to arrive til 8-9pm.

Pretty much all good roads to go on. 1 mile on a motorway.
I know it looks a bit out of the way but any further north and theres not alot of nice roads that lead straight to wales.

But the A5 is very very boring...like a motorway.

I know, but how do I tell HIM that, afterall Wales was my idea! I really do want to ride Snowdonia, just wish it wasnt this week. Watch this space though, its still only Wednesday...

Hmm it's a long way from Oswestry, but some cracking roads in between. :D Could have shown you a few if you were going another weekend, but guess where I'll be? ;)

The Madlanders route-meister strikes again :).

That's pretty much what I would have suggested, but I'd drop down from Market Harborough at Husbands Bosworth towards Northampton and take this route towards Warwick, hence avoiding the slow urban mess that is Rugby and sticking on nice twisties for the whole section. This was a bestbikingroads.com route which I figured out for getting to my Sister who lives near Southam.

We did it backwards on our last Rutland Loop, the one where we met at Long Itch, my brother was with us on the Yellow viffer, then we met Russ at Melton Mowbray.

Yes I was thinking of putting it in but I couldn't quite remember the route and thought that as KellyJo wasn't familiar with this area that staying on the A426 all the way from Lutterworth to Southam was simpler than that BBR route.

THanks for all your input guys, unfortunately my weekend ended with a trip in the rac truck and me ordering a new reg/rec, but im still hoping to do wales in the nr future and will definitely refer back to these routes xx
