So a few of you are aware I've spent the last week on the isle of Rum in Scottishland. It was my first big mission on the SV. And I survived! 750 more bike miles under the belt, every one enjoyed (but in particular those on the the way to Mallaig from Glenfillan, nice bit of road that!).

Kitted up and over the first hurdle of the day, getting up the drive

Approaching Glencoe. I pulled into the nice quiet layby thinking I'd have some nice quiet time only to forget that a coachload of Dutch/German tourists had pulled in too all jumping out to have a fag...made one take a pic to make up for it lol

'Bowt it really. Weather was fantastic on the whole which was a pleasant surprise! As was my lack of a numb ar5e at any point on the bike, guess I must be one of the minority that doesn't notice the hardness of the seat!

I really enjoyed the A830 to Mallaig when I got the boat over to Skye, there's a nice little B road towards the end [B8008] as well. Your weather looks much better than what I had on that stretch though :D

Nice pics and well done doing it alone considering not had that bike long :)

Good stuff! I had my first solo trip 3 months into biking/sv ownership - west coast and Isle of Skye. And yes Mallaig road is brilliant

You're riding on your own this weekend then? :)

Aye, bringing the bike up but not sure if I'm going to bother doing the rideout.

Just a bit! I think riding the YBR for a year has really made me appreciate the qualities of the SV and it really seemed like it was right at home on those Scottish roads. I came home via the A6 and that Shap road was so much fun too! Also, having done all these roads as just a pillion it felt fantastic experiencing them for myself.

Well done myc really pleased to see your getting on well with the sv. I really need to start getting further afield on my bike instead of my usual local tootles, although i did go to squires for the first time last weekend so its a start ;)

It's a good feeling to be riding alone on a trip like that, can't have someone holding your hand all the time so may as well just bite the bullet and go. Well done for having the balls to do it.

On your big twin rolling, thumping out a tune? Following the headlight, blasting your way home?

Sure there's a song in there somewhere... http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/fallenangel-2007/HeadBanger.gif

It was a quote from the film Braveheart, but yes, AR12 in Scotland would get my vote!

What would be the point of that though, already have the GM?

Dont hijack MissYC's thread with talk of Scottish AR vs GM thats been done to death.

Great pics Maria.

Much different sort of event, though - GM is more "Hey guys, lets go for a ride on these awesome roads up here", while AR is less about the riding and more "Haven't seen you in ages, what have you been doing with yourself since AR10/9/8".

Lets face it though, it'll be a lot better than a lap of the M25 followed by armed police who thought we were trying to mess up the Olympics...

Thanks Maria :)

Shame to miss it too, I was thinking about everybody, but it fell at the wrong time for me this year.

Just for any of you who were interested in the research I was helping out with on Rum, here's a really good bit of footage. Thankfully I left the island before the tv crew turned up!

The bit on Rum starts about 1.30 and lasts about 6 mins :)
