Hi guys and Girls,
I'm new to riding, new to SVs and new to the forum.
I've been doing a DAS course on an ER5, got my Module 2 on Tuesday and have bought a K1 SV650.
Can't wait to get on it and go and enjoy the last dregs of summer!
I've tried to attach a picture of the bike to this post, not sure if it worked or not.
I would like to fit some lower fairings, some crash bobbins and then get some riding experience.
I'd also like to find a club to ride with in Buckinghamshire, around Aylesbury way if anyone knows of any!
Anyway,
Hello!
I look forward to becoming part of the SV Community!

Welcome.
Unique bike that! Plenty of organized rides on here, check the regions section for your locals.

Thanks, It's a horrible colour. It was originally blue, I don't know why the previous owner wanted a colour change.

I don't think it's bad, not a fan of the big 'S' though.

I don't think much of it either. I might remove it and replace it with a set of thesehttp://www.epicmilitaria.com/shopimages/sections/thumbnails/t_536.jpg

Hi Tony, if you go for a ride around the Aylesbury area give me a message and I'll come out!
I only moved here recently so the only road I know of that looks like it will be fun to ride is the road to Leighton Buzzard.
I passed yesterday, went to pick up the SV from Ipswich and it died on the M25! I think the rectifier/regulator is shot.
The battery didn't charge at all on an 80 mile motorway journey and the lights are super dim.
On a good note though, 130 miles on the clock an hour with a little bit left to go.
So much fun. When it works :D

Hi Mate
I am from High Wycombe and reguarly ride over to Thame, Long Crendon, Aylesbury and up to Buckingham.
When you get the bike fixed give me a shout and we can go on a leisurly ride out and some nice twisty roads

So, the bike is fixed. Needed a new battery on top of the Reg / Rec so all is fine and dandy now.
I checked the tyre pressure, they were 21 psi Front and 26 Rear.
I think these are supposed to be 33 Front and 36 Rear so I have inflated these a bit. This sorted out the head shaking when cornering. I was worried forks or front wheel was knackered.
The chain needs lubing, but not adjusting. The engine oil has been topped up but needs changing along with filter.
All brake fluids are within the tolerances and the radiator doesn't need topping up.
What else do I need to check on a newly purchased but 10yr old machine?

Thats about it. The rest will be as it needs it (seals etc)
What miles is it at?
mrrowley87

49000 - very high!

only 5k a year
Thats not much TBH.
Just due a oil and filter if the servicing is up to date. If not, a shim check if your being very pedantic

I don't know what a shim check is? Oil and filter will be done on payday. Ebay do a filter and 5 litres of Castrol Power1 oil for £30. Is this a good deal?

power 1 is fully synth. Semi Synth is more than adequate which is about £25 a bottle.
The shim check is the major service every 14.5k its where the valve clearances are checked, its required to keep the motor running totally sweet. Only few need them doing.

Welcome to the Org, you will be hard pushed to find a cuddlier and more friendly bunch anywhere else on the net! Shame about your bike breaking down on your ride back, but at least it is fixed now. Have a happy Autumn of riding and be careful when it gets cold and slippery.
Once you have got plenty of experience, have a think about ungrading your bike to the Pointy, a far Superior machine in all ways! *hides from curvy owners* ;-)

At the moment - The next sunny day in Bucks will be Saturday.
I will be childfree and able to ride if anyone in the area would like a rideout? This would be my first ever ride with other people since my test so you can show mehow it's done!

I don't know the area at all. I know 2 roads that I want to ride on and they're all from Aylesbury.
Aylesbury to Beaconsfield down the A413
Aylesbury to Milton Keynes via Leighton Buzzard on the A418 / A4146
I don't know anywhere else purely as I haven't been in the area 4 months yet.

ok
If you like i can meet you in Aylesbury near the travelodge on the A413, has a pub next to it.
Then figure it out from there?
Maybe pop over to H's Cafe over near Benson or ride up to Buckingham and then down to Bicester over to Long Crendon and back
Doesn't bother me
Just a good excuse to be out
mrrowley87
