Good Roads Towards Bristol?

Have to head south tomorrow, does anyone recomend any roads down there from Birmingham at all. I don't mind it being a long route at all, just not on ****ty A roads or motorways...

I used to bomb down to Cheltenham on the A38. It's not going to provide huge excitement buts its got some good parts and you can make reasonable progress.
