just read this on the web, crew did a good job staying with the plane, according to the other source.

Mixed reports, I herd earlier this afternoon not long after it happened that the pilot ejected into the river and walkers pulled him out, but sadly also just herd that the pilot was thrown from the aircraft on impact and unfortunately died :(

They have a pilot and a navigator, so maybe the navigator ejected

MOD website reports the sad death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, Eggman to his friends and colleagues. RIP Red4

For what they do, they've a good safety record, and this sounds like machinery failure?

RIP Eggman you gave a lot of folk, a lot of pleasure

I thought the Hawk Trainer was a single seater? Plus there would be little or no need for a navigator.

I stand to be corrected though.

The red arrows do have 2 seats. Whether they use them all the time is another thing though.
There was no report of any ejection yet.

My hart really sinks like a stone when I hear this sort on thing. A true hero who died doing what he loved doing. So sad. :-(

The Hawks used by the Reds are 2 seaters. When transitting between destinations the 2nd seat is taken up by an engineer. That way should there be any technical problems there are a variety of different trade engineers available to locate and repair the fault.

When the jets fly at displays there is only the pilot and the 2nd seat stays empty. Only on rare occasions will there be a "passenger".

Saw him doing a display only a week or so ago. Very sad news!

RIP Eggman. Very sad. Also very sad that his wife was watching the display at the time of the crash.

It's really sad, I remember first seeing the Red Arrows at Silverstone before a British Car Grand Prix.

It was then and probably still is the most stunning, spectacular thing I've ever seen. The pilots are so talented and dedicated, modest and self effacing, just brilliant examples of the human race. RIP.
