View Full Version : Huge wheelie

Was at my first Sprint race. Seventh run of the day, up against the record holder, wanted a quick start to at least look like I was fast for a few seconds, dumped the clutch too heavily and.......OMG HELP ME.....throttled off and got the wheel down, throttled on and lifted the wheel back up, then proceeded to swerve my way down the next 100yds, bouncing off the rev limiter and trying to get my brain back in gear.

Thanks to Annie Lee for capturing the moment.

The instant the lights went I was off like a bullet, for all of a fraction of a second, before my world went weird and all I could see was blue!

this picture made me laugh so much last i had tears running down my face, i have just looked again this morning and it has done the same again, so well done for that, i think it is also because i'm picturing the whole scenario of your panic, the guy on the next bike thinking WTF, and the faces on the onlookers.
well done for keeping it the right way up though..=D>=D>

Spot on that man :)

What I like about this thread is the honesty. We know how good you are a riding Talan, but you came on & basically said "Holy sh*t, I made a mistake".

I know a lot of riders that would have said " Did you see that for a wheelie, how good am I?"

Good on yer & keep up the cracking work that you do, I for 1 am in awe of you :)

Here's a bit more honesty.....I went to Donnington on Thursday, had a great time there (my first time to the track), got quicker and quicker - down to 1min55sec lap. Then on the very last lap I hit 5th on the start/finish straight, having only hit 4th before, but still braked in the same place. Obviously, as you will know, I was carrying an extra 20mph into the corner and failed to decelerate enough to make the first corner. I finally came to a stop some 30 yds into the gravel no longer attached to my bike. At least I know the velcro is strong enough to hold me on the bike when I'm the right way up and then allows me to depart when things go wrong! Lesson learned.

How did the outriggers work?

How did the outriggers work?

The outriggers were fine, they behaved (mostly). During the TBE event, they were great and totally out of the way. The rider, Paul, was an ex racer, weighed about 16 stone and cranked the bike right over, and still there was no grounding out of the outriggers.

We now have a 2003 Honda Fireblade for the charity, as it was donated by a MCN reader. Hasn't been touched for 2 years, after he dropped it on ice and cracked the crankcase, but it should be ok after welding and a bit of tinkering.

Hope all is well. What was the bike like you saw?

Cool text me/col if you if you wanna drop it off.

Yeh was good, we decided to go for it. It was between the ER6n or the Z750r. The Z is by far the sexier bike but the ER6 fits nicely into the minitwin class - plus they will be using them for the TT next year so from a future planpoint of view we decided to get the ER6 and convert it after i am finished commuting on it.

They seem to be doing really well in the seris as well which is a plus.

When is the next Bike Experience day?

Of course, this HUGE wheelie must have only been possible with the rear wheel I sold you a year or so ago ;)
