View Full Version : Petrol tank repairs?

My SV650S K4 fell off its side-stand the other day -- totally my fault -- and I've ended up with a lovely dent on the nearside of the petrol tank, where it hit the centre stand of the scoot parked next to it. Luckily I did no damage to that.

The dent is quite large, say 3 - 4 inches long, but smooth. Some of the paint has come off, too. I've had a quick look on ebay, but there's only a yellow tank from a K5 on there, for £125, at the moment. I hate to imagine what the cost of a new tank from Suzuki is.

Can anyone recommend a repairers around south-east London way who might be able to take a look at it and advise on whether the dent can be removed, or at least made smaller, the cost of repairs and a respray?

Cheers.

Most dents are fairly shallow and the edges[high spots] knocked back down to allow filling and respray,I don't know if your model is double skinned but even if it is not it is not going to make any noticeable difference to the tank capacity. Make sure that the laquer used on the tank is petrol proof as ordinary laquer will be affected by any petrol spills.
Much cheaper option than a new tank and might even be cheaper than second hand.

Could try hot glue gun method, and pull it out.

Sudden-Impact (http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/sudden-impact-13187226.html)

Not exactly SE London, but this might be helpful,I've not used them myself, but have seen their results, very good, no idea on price, but they are used by dealers.

Cheers Mark.

Thanks for that, Mark. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
