View Full Version : Car insurance...again
For those that follow me on FB, i apologise.
Anyway, car renewal time. This year its increased by £110 and its the cheapest i can find after Go comparing meerkats that are confused.com. So why is this? Is it the usual thing that after some word disasters that the motorist gets loaded with the the increases?
So i thought, right lets have a look at other cars, something that i might think of getting next year. Say a Golf TDi 170. Fiarly sensible car. £860pa! If i remove my 6 points, £915. Hows that work? An 05 BMW 320d convertable £720! I really dont get car insurace one bit. Im sure they make it up as they go along.
For the record, im over 40, drive a '97 volvo have 11 years NCB, and 6 points live in br1 and cover approx 6k per annum.
Thieving *******s...oh, the best one, Aviva, with their 20% discount, £2042!!!!!

1) Stock markets (they're losing money, so are charging us more).
2) Different cars have different accident rates. IE if you drive a car that costs twice as much, but has ABS/traction control etc, it might be a 'safer bet' for them to insure, hence they'll charge less.
That's my guess, anyway.

It's the same for me too.
Bike and car insurance have both increased, despite being class one advanced car and advanced bike with the Cops!
I've never claimed, had a conviction or even points, EVER!
Yet year on year, it goes up.
No wonder so many people don't bother getting cover. Average fine at court is less than the annual policy, especially if you're young. Who cares about six points for an IN10 when your policy was £2000 TPFT before?
Personal injury claims to blame? I don't know, but I do know that most companies will make a preliminary offer within days of liability being accepted, just to put cash in your pocket and prevent further claims. That's without even seeing a Doctor.
Should we head towards the idea of including third party cover in the cost of the VEL? Then if you want further cover, you pay for it yourself.
Pete ;)
I heard off a friend that the government has decided that women having cheaper insurance is sexist so they have to pay just as much as men now which may be a small part of why my insurance is £180 more expensive this year, it used to be about £20 cheaper to have the gf on the policy than to be insured alone.
I tried to beat my £550 renewal quote but the nearest I got was £1300 - that's 8 yr no claims, clean licence and driving a Citroen C3.
If I was back 17 again just getting my licence I don't think I would bother with a car knowing I'd have to pay a large chunk of my hard-earned to keep a car legal.

The insurance on the Maverick doubled at last renewal. It went up to £350 which is half of what we paid for it. I queried it with my insurance company and they said it was the best that they could do. Well it wasnt because when I went on confused.com they quoted less for a new policy than the renewal price they quoted me direct.
We've put both the Maverick and Audi onto Admiral Multicar, we're insuring both now for £30 - 40 what ecar wanted to insure the Maverick on its own...
As Pete says why bother with insurance when the fine for not having it is less than the insurance premium would have been.
Levo, Femjer said that, but i dont see how that owuld put premiums up. if the ladies have to pay more, then surely, it should drop as they will get increased revenue if all premiums are equal.
The one part i could undertsand is taking my points off, put the policy up! Go figure on that.
But, £2042!!!!!! Thats with 20% discount Thats like over £2.5k for a car worth £375 accrding to parks, and im over 40ffs. Makes my renewal premium look very reasonable

Because we all have to pay it, they'll all keep increasing it, regardless of who, sex, age etc. They've got us by the short and curlies, because we need it to get where we need to be in a car.
#tin hat#
its a ploy to get cars off the road full stop ;)
I'm dreading the Freelanders renewal, it cost just shy of a grand last time, I doubt with my years driving will it be less this time like it should be.
