the quack has said exercise and I am now running a mile before work every day.
However, concious that the weather is getting worse, the mornings drawing in etc. I have purchased a cross trainer.
Is there ever a more fiendish invention. 2 minutes and I am in agony. the daughter says she does 30 mins. I don't believe her.
Trying them out yesterday I rejected one as there was not enough resistance. FFS I only have this set on 3/8 and it starts easy. and then each second I feel those invisible jubilee clips somebody has fitted round my thighs tighten. what is the secret, go back to the running whilst I can. Or fight this monster in my garage.

Not sure 'big man' and 'get your ass down here' should be in the same sentence as 'show me how to do it' :(

Tim,
Stay with it - it will get easier. No pain no gain and you can show your ripped body to the org at next year's AR

Wifey says, relax into it, roll with the stride and you'll be up to an hour in no time. Personally, I loath the contraptions. In the gym I use the running machine and the cycle (and some weights if I'm feeling particularly masochistic) and then go for a swim to cool down (and because I'm properly cr@p at doing my stretches). I walk round the cross-trainers like they're a hole in the ground.

I've tried them all: The running machine, the rowing machine, the cycling machine.
I had to stop as I never felt I got anywhere.

There are many ways that you can exercise and make things better for yourself without killing yourself at a gym(or on machines in your own home)
You don't want to be throwing yourself into some cross dressing machine, if you are really out of pracitise, its likely to kill you than be beneficial.
Why waste money on funny exercise machines, when you could borrow a pram and a kid and go power pushing up some hills!
I'm being serious, its how I got a tad trimmer, and shaved a fair bit off the flabby c section tummy, as well as toning up.

Get some cheap hookers, they'll give you all the exercise you need and probably be cheaper than a gym subscription.

Did you go Brazilian/landing strip or just stick to the basic bikini shape ?

See your point Dizz if Tim popped over to yours he could power walk the bairns and you could exercise the raptor. Seems like win - win:p

You know, I find I prefer running in Autumn when it's getting cooler.
I find running in the high of summer tough- not just for the heat, but the hayfever affects my breathing too.
I've just started an erratic running schedule again (will be aiming for 1 mile 5 days a week for a couple of weeks then upping the distance. At the moment it's 1 mile once or twice a week!). It's to couple in with drinking less too.
1 mile is a good distance to start with. Is what I'm doing again (I got up to 4 miles at the start of the year- though that was tough as...!). Once I get past the pain barrier in a few weeks, I reckon I'll start really enjoying it again...

I know your tabs too well, Bluebell, old dog, yates, reflex, bull&royal. and you still haven't made it off church street.
dizzy, this is my hill of choice (Parlick, just north of Preston, round the corner from my dads gaff.)

But as fools tend to jump off it these days, do you still want me to take your monsters for a stroll

That picture of your hill of choice is shouting "MOUNTAIN BIKE!", good fitness, good fun and still get to prat about on two wheels.
I've had a cross trainer and a rowing machine and ended up selling both on flee bay. Running a mile a day for a while will do the job and after a while you will be able to naturally increase the distance, but don't rush. I've been seriously running for a year now and love it. I now manage between 6-12 miles 5 days a week. How sad......
