View Full Version : A horrible situation
I find myself in the position of needing to find a new bike to commute on. Near the top of the list is an SV650. This raises two questions:
1) Can I find a decent one for two grand or so
2) Can I bring myself to own another SV?
Oh, and...
3) Would I rather have a KTM LC4 640 Supermoto
4) What about something like a DRZ400SM
5) Should I be more annoyed that the KTM disappeared from outside Great Ormond Street hospital this evening while I was visiting a patient
It's a rum do and no mistake.

Define decent
there's a k3 on the forum at the mo for £1900...and there are definitely cheaper out there. You could get a newer one for around £2k. I'd also be tempted by a DRZ no idea on pricingdings
Only real problem with the DRZ is it's about 20bhp down on the KTM, so it'd feel a bit gutless. And it's built with cheap parts so it'd feel relatively manky to ride.

Could you live with a yellow one?

They're supposedly more fun to ride as they have a tendencey to crash, which you have to control. ;)
Crisis averted - the KTM was found at 3am and I picked it up from Islington nick this morning.
Now I just need to fix it - much as I enjoy using a screwdriver as a key, I'm not sure it does much for security.

Glad you got it back. Was it disk locked or anything when the little gits nicked it?

No, it wasn't. I hadn't bothered to take my disc lock with me. Didn't expect to be away from it for three hours though.
Got an estimate for parts and labour to fix the non-cosmetic bits. Thick end of 400 quid. And it's overdue for a fairly major service, which is another 350. Still, it's only money...

Can't take it with you as they say! Glad you got it back.
I'm coming to terms with the almost-loss.
Just had to add handlebars to the list of parts that need replacing. I'm dreading the final bill in a few days.

Doesn't sound like it'll make a lot of difference. Result on getting it back.
Aaaaaaaaaand it's gone again.
Ho hum.

owenski's got a drz400 (think it's currently in s flavour), he had a bit of an off around 2 weeks ago (on his commute home) - the very reason for replacing his pointy with a DRZ for commuting was to save a fortune if he ever had an off..
The drz has paid for itself by now I guess as he only really needed to straighten a few bits back into shape. The sv would have been in bits!

Office car park. Ho hum.
Not expecting to be lucky enough to get it back this time either.

Your not having a good run of luck.
My K6 pointy with some cosmetic crash damage, but spot on mechanically and with a fully serviced 24000 miles, sold for £1500. It's serving it's new owner (Munkygunn) very well as a far as I'm aware.

Robbing scum  any cctv or office staff that might have spotted something?
Should have stuck with the SV in the first place. No one would have nicked that.
The Met have exceeded my wildest expectations: Theft reported at 6pm on the 19th, letter posted on the 20th declaring the investigation closed. They didn't even bother getting in touch with building security to ask about CCTV footage.
Paperwork and keys went off in the post today, hopefully the insurers won't muck me about too much.
And then I can go shopping for an SV. Insult to injury or what?

I bought my 2004 K4 for £1600 from eBay three weeks ago, 17k miles.
Ebays always a bit of a risk but I went on gut feeling about the seller and met him at his work. Turned out to be a really nice bloke and I've not looked back.
Both my RGV and ZX7R came from ebay, both fine.
Asking prices on eBay are crazy at the moment. Hilariously so.

No worse than any private sale

Yep
At least with EBAY sales, if it isn't 'as described' you can walk away.
Just had the settlement offer from the insurers, looks like I've got two grand or so to put towards the replacement.
Which may not be an SV650 after all (phew!) Having sworn not to get another scrote-magnet KTM, I've kinda sold myself on a new scrote-magnet KTM 990SMT. It's the perfect time of year for a test ride...

And indeed it was - I think I've found my new toy. Got a couple of phone calls to make and I might be picking up a new bike on my birthday.

Very nice :D keep a couple of alsations chained to this one just incase ;)
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, a letter comes through from the insurers
"We have been notified that your stolen vehicle has been recovered"
I'm not sure if they think I'm happy, sad, or even care.

send them a letter back saying thats great news and that your really happy about it, you never know they might just return it to you as well.

Unlikely, they've paid me for it, so it belongs to them now.
And I don't want it. I've already got the replacement.

Offer them something silly, they may say yes.
Why offer them anything if I don't want it?
