I have owned every SV in the past 3 years curvey, pointy, 1000cc ect.... And got bored. Nothing wrong with the SV just was not looking forward to riding it at weekends. SV is in the for sale section.

That's a nice looking bike. Nearly bought one myself but some reviews said that they were on the slow side, so I didn't bother.

Would like to hear a "real" review on it though, as they're meant to be great on the twisties.

don't be cruel 45bhp, although they are a little on the "beefy" side, they will do 100mph, distinctive looking bike.

No thats the girlfriend. I took her for a ride and she said it was really comfy and preferred being pillion on this compared to the sv.

The suspension is light years ahead of my sv650 which has standard set up. This is probably why she enjoyed it a little more.

They retail at about £7500 where as an sv retials at £4750? which is probably why the suspension is quite a bit better.

rictus01
19-09-11, 09:26 PM
I wasn't aware the suspension was anything special, I think it's reworked fazer forks (non adjustable) and a preload adjustable rear shock, I know they stiffened up the front and shortened the gear ratios for town work (which is why the Aprillia version is faster), but then I guess in comparison to worn stock SV stuff it would feel tighter :smt102

Cheers Mark.

How much!!!!!???? I was going to say I liked it, but that much for 45bhp and 100mph. What else does it do for the money?

Berlin
20-09-11, 03:32 AM
Becasue they weren't build down to a budget. Its all about quality. Its yamaha trying to build a Honda! :-)

andrewsmith
20-09-11, 06:26 AM
and Yamaha pretty much added 50% to the price over the same 3 years they upped the price of the R1.

I had haggled one of them almost new (700 miles) in 2009 for about £4k (RRP was £5k)

Specialone

No offence to the op but although it's a nice looking bike, they are taking the pi55 with this price aren't they?

If it had fully adjustable ohlins suspension then it might justify the price (maybe), 45bhp is a joke IMO for a 650cc modern bike.

Can't see them selling a lot of these, maybe why they aren't selling many R1's as well and are offering 5 years 0% finance to try and shift some.

Thanks for the answer, im happy again now as i was looking at the pictures and thinking that ian505050 is an attractively shaped bloke. I was worried i was on the turn ;)

I do like the look of that MT, will you be tweaking it to get a bit more power?

No offence taken. I paid 1700 so new price was not an issue to me. As for bhp,the gear ratio makes up for the lack of power up to 60 mph. The mt-03 was quite a bit faster off the mark than my brothers standard SV but when aerodynamics come into play and I ran out of gears he flew past, but by that point I was traveling at a
the maximum speed I felt was safe anyhow.

They have been selling them since 2006 and the sales must be very poor due to price and average the person on the street using price and bhp their two main criteria when buying a bike. Most people tend to thing that more bhp per pound means they are getting a better deal.

Argyll
20-09-11, 08:36 AM
The MT-03 is one of the great bargain buys second hand, especially for the huge number of people who only really want to ride at 90+ on the odd occassion.

I had my Bonnie out on Sunday and did 150 miles round the countryside and didn't have to push it to have fun.

The Yam is a great little bike and looks fantastic and for 1700 an absolute steal.

Still want a review though :)

the whole stepping down HP is actually alot more fun.
Id ride the dr350 over the sv anyday just because its so much more fun even if its half the power.

Is a good looking bike was always interested in getting one.

I agree, I have much more fun and relax more riding my DRZ, if it had another 10-15bhp and was a tad more comfortable i wouldnt need another bike :)

I stepped down from SV1000 to sv650 to the mt-03. TBF the noise and engine vibrations my mt-03 makes and the nakedness makes it feel just as powerful as my previous faired SV650.

After taking the photos i decided that it looked better standard so i removed all the mods apart from the cans

I then spent £4.00 on rim tape and £1.50 on yellow tank decals and decided the £5.50 i spent on these items made the bike look better that the hundreds of pounds worth of texalium crap.

What do you think?

Depends on wheel or crank measurement. My XT is 43bhp at the crank, but only about 33 at the wheel.

Im not a speed freak but i couldnt go backwards to 45bhp. As much as i like the look of it.

It's not backwards, it's just different. Go ride a 45bhp supermoto, then come back and re-evaluate.

yorkie_chris
31-01-12, 10:08 AM
Little bikes are great for thrashing around, bloody annoying when you actually want to get somewhere.

Single, nice and nippy for town work. Then add water cooling and make them a bit awkward to work on. Add some stupid exhausts so you can't carry anything. Then add styling to make it look like a Germanic supermoto, done badly.

Could have been great. Look what they ended up with...

As for the price versus build quality :smt082 ... I reckon they're expensive because they didn't make as many as fazer etc.

ogden
02-02-12, 12:56 AM
Those forks are the wrong way up and the engine's missing at least 20bhp. I idly toyed with one as a more reliable alternative when I had a KTM 640, but the sheer lack of power and the bargain-basement parts-bin nature put me off.

Looks nice enough though. Thought about putting a stroker engine in it?
