The Final Solution to the Pikey Problem

So brought on by the dale farm clearance thread, what the devil can be done about pikeys?

We all know how nice they are and how they improve any area they move into, but what to do? As tempting as it is to suggest targeting any conglomeration of more than 3 caravans and knackered transit vans (that isn't a NEMCRC race meet :mrgreen:) with napalm, and then executing any survivors, men, women, children, dags, the lot... that's extreme and unrealistic even by MY standards.

So what to do? Personally I'd say the government needs to enact some anti-pikey laws, every time a campsite lands somewhere unwanted they can all be detained while all relevant government bodies have a look over their kit and vehicles, obviously they'll all be seized immediately for being stolen and full of red diesel. Harass them into the ground until their only option is to join normal society or bugger off and annoy some foreigners.

This seems perfectly reasonable to me, but obviously requires a police budget.

Maybe the local residents should sue the council leaders for failure to provide a safe environment/value for money for all the council tax payers. Perhaps that might encourage councillors to do the job they get paid for.

I'd imagine some of those views belong to people who have been left with a bill for cleaning up the mess left by 'travellers'.

How about we keep them as pets and keep them in the shed at the bottom of the garden? Mines a bit full, but I'm sure one could sleep in the cardboard box between the bikes, it can come out once a week if I need anything polishing!

I think most of it has already been said. The laws are there, it's just that, historically, there has been no will to actually enforce them. They get little sympathy round our way - we had pikey transits in our yard looking for metal to nick only a couple of weeks ago and it's a fairly regular occurrence.

Guy down the road from me used to bare knuckle with the pikeys.

Not only did he get to thump them, he also took their money off them as well. However, he did need plenty of backup to make sure bets were honored.

That aside, what to do about the problem of the pikeys. Simples, isn't there some stupid civil liberty infringing breach of human rights that allows a copper to arrest somebody if the cop believes they may be about to commit a crime. Get constable Savage on the case, tell him pikey is the new Winston Kudogo.

Having had them move in on the public open space opposite my street twice in the 4years I've lived there I bloody hate them!
That area is a loverly place for people to walk thier dogs and inkeeping with a typical northerner stereotype walk about in our wellies and thick coats saying hello to complete strangers, even befriending a few.
However when the pikeys come they ruin it for everyone, chopping down trees which interfere with their satiltes, the left over rubbish obviously, the damage to the fences and greenery.
Thats all before you get onto the 24hour power cut we had when they raided the sub station for "scrap" On thier latest visit they were there for 12 days along with the substation farse they were caught in several houses, countless gardens and one night we even had half a dozen horses up our cul-de-sac which they'd liberated!

They're a dishonourable bunch of wasters and how anyone can choose that life is beyond me, and now to make it worse you've got channel 4 promoting them. Oh and antoher thing, they dont have knackered transits, all those who moved in up our way had vechicles no older than 2 or 3 years. God knows how they do it but the police didnt seem too bothered, during thier arrival the police actually prevent locals from getting near - they literally did thier best to make sure traffic was stopped and no on got them excited. The relief on locals faces when police were there within minutes of the first arrival was quite amusing, only to see it turn to confusion then anger in a matter of moments when we realised they weren't been moved away but were instead been escorted on to the POS( a locked gate and low fence prevents access this had obviously been removed magically)

Basically I dont care what happens to them, as long as its distressing and they're not in my eye line ever again.

When "travellers" have committed a crime (such as smash all the windows in the pub where my sister was landlord because she wanted them to pay for their round of drinks - plenty of witnesses), the police don't arrest them. I assume that is because they would be given bail and then just move. I know there is a cost associated with it, but bail isn't given to people who are deemed a risk, so why not do the same for the "travellers"? Seize vehicles with no tax (are they exempt from paying it?).
There was something in the paper yesterday saying that police are starting to crack down on gang members for small offences - e.g. no TV licence. i.e. Effectively do what worked so sucessfully against Al Capone. Would that not work for "travellers" as well?

I'd be interested in what the line is from the coppers on here? Is my understanding correct?

Several points.
Arrests can be made if there is reasonable suspicion and it is necessary, and bail can be denied if you believe they will either fail to answer it or commit further offences, so no, the fact that they might move on would not prevent arrest, if anything the opposite.

The majority of travellers these days do tax their vehicles, and insure them, and if they are old enough, get an MOT.

Zero tolerance policing isn't a new idea, and is used extensively, however it's illegal to use it against a particular group, especially if they are a "gypsy" which some daft wombat has included as an ethnic minority. This means if the police want to employ that tactic they have to use it against everybody, and strangely enough the locals don't appreciate it!

If I had all the answers I wouldn't be sat here on my day off trying to put the world to rights, but don't let that stop you coming up with ideas....!

Parts of this sound familiar... I only noticed the pikeys in the park near my house a few years ago when a clapped out Astra estate shot past me/daughter/dog just missing us, followed by a quad bike with several kids hanging off it. Open mouth look of horror soon stuck when I saw the same Astra practicing handbrake turns a few yards away and several people dumping bin bags in the bushes. I could just see the tops of their caravan chimneys over a hedge and then I realised the metal gates into the park had vanished. Left very quickly at this point to make sure all the windows in the house were properly locked! In this case the police arrived minutes later and actually prevented them from leaving, keeping them penned in until the council evicted them within 24 hours. The mess and damage from just a day was STAGGERING!

They are NOT an ethnic minority, they are just taking the **** and getting away with it.

A bunch of pikeys:smt072 turned up in a field at the end of my village a few years back, instead of going down the £5K injunction route they got the farmer to spread the slurry a few weeks early on the fields either side of them, the stench made them leave:mrgreen:. On another occasion they set up camp on the recreation ground, the local parish clerk phoned the police and within 10 minutes had some ar5h0le from the gypsies protection league bleating down the phone at her, her reply was fairly short.

According to the journalist Richard Littlejohn, Comic Relief gave £20k to a charity campaigning for pikeys rights one year, the next time someone tries to sell you a red nose, give them your lawnmower.
