I've just seen reports on MSN of possible snow from mid october through to feburary!

I hope this isn't the case, as I'm an all year round rider...

Which made me wonder, has anyone here got any interesting stories of winter riding?

Were they the same forecasters who, for the last two summers, have forecast BBQ summers?

I could tell you of how I set fire to my socks after a winter rideout....... and I was still wearing them.

The weather here is so insanely unpredictable, someyears, we do a ride on christmas. It's supposed to be around -20, but it turns out being around +15. You can never really tell the weather here, you just wait and see :)

It was so cold in our house last winter I went to light the stove and the flame on my lighter froze.

I'd take these weather predictions and use them to wipe my ass, they can't accurately predict 24hrs ahead, so 4 months they are having a laugh.

4 Months of snow is BS, maybe 4 months which may have some snow fall but nothing to worry about.
We'll have our usual 4 days of blind panic over 4inch of snow then it'll be forgotten about.

Rode the pointy in some deep snow shizzle last year, rode 16miles and dropped it 200yards from home - gutted :( serves me right for living at the top of a masssoooaavvviiee hill.

I haven't tried riding in the snow yet. I get a bit worried riding across wet-grassy fields (which made the carpark up at Goodwood interesting on Sunday!). I've done cold though, last winter - not fun. Got some thermal unders since then so I'm almost looking forward to a crispy clear winter ride.

I'll be getting some snow chains for the bike just in case.

New off road tyres for the push bike then.
Cheaper to drop and easier to muck about on and keep (reasonable) control on ice and snow.

Been kinda looking forward to winter this year, including the snow. Not entirely sure why, but I am....

This'll be my 2nd year commuting in winter, didn't come off last year but so many (too) close calls.

Also I don't think I'll ever forget just how cold it gets on the road during those months, Has anyone got any of those cold killer body suit things, cus if they work they'd be worth their weight in gold.

A mate at work started off with heated gloves and then added a heated jacket to it. He loves it, in fact I think he even wears it when it's mild, bordering on warm! Tart.

Winter - *eugh*

I hate the cold and the older I get the more I hate it. I had a meeting with another solicitor today, he is retiring at the end of October, he and his missus are emigrating to their house on some Greek island with orange trees in the garden. I was so envious.
