Sweet or savoury topping?

(I was ridiculed this morning for putting jam on mine!)

Discuss!

I sometimes have just butter...but jam takes it to a whole new level. Hangover cure = sorted.

It just sounds completely wrong to me - I don't think I could bring myself to do it. But then, I thought that about beans and cheese on a baked potato but that's actually delicious. Thing is, if I put jam on one and then found I didn't like it, it'd be a waste so I'm not likely to risk it! :-)

Just for reference, it's widely acknowledged that Hitler started on the downward path when he tried alternatives to butter on his crumpets. So beware.

Haha!

I was about to try Geodude's suggestion, but I'll hang off for fear of starting another world war.

butter, but no longer allowed it. So a sort of poly unsaturated spread yukky stuff.

A lightly poached egg goes well.

But nought wrong with having a munch on a bit of crumpet. Unless of course the wife catches you.

Butter definitely, but jams nice too. As for cream cheese that goes great on a toasted tea cake nom nom.

Whatever it is, dont let it dribble down your chin cos thats just wasteful!!!

Butter for me although Mrs B and little Miss B like jam on theirs. If you like jam then either you are a girl or should be.....given my limited research :)

I think KellyJo's suggestion of cream cheese on a toasted tea cake sounds so gross that it may actually be quite nice...

I was pregnant when I discovered it and it was the only thing that would stay down. Unlike other cravings I had which I detested after pregnancy Ive continued to enjoy these :p

Toast the underside.
Ketchup spread into the little holes.

My favourite is probably cheese, marmite and peanut butter. Any two of those three together isn't bad either.
I'll have jam occasionally, but I've not got much of a sweet tooth. And, of course, you can't go wrong with just butter.

Forget crumpet - just had a home made scone for brekkie made with real butter, none of your marg nonsense and laced with strong cheddar from a proper cheese supplier not the supermarket, a little thyme, some dry English mustard and black pepper topped with a little more grated cheese. Delicious, and they only took me 5 minutes to make and 10 minutes to bake last night.

Oooh....I'm really hungry after reading this thread. Might nip off and make some crumpets.
