Ok, so I have bought my son an Xbox360 and will be getting him a Kinect as well (6th birthday)
Can you peeps recommend me some kiddy friendly kinect games please?
Also, what is the media streaming like on xbox? My colleague reckons he has loads of problems with codec support. I have a pretty decent setup with my PS3 at the moment (Ps3 Media Server on PC) and I never have any issues. but I hear you can control movies with the Kinect. If that means no more rooting round for the remote then I'm game ;)
Will be hard wired into a gigabit LAN so no bandwidth issues thar ;)

The game which comes with the kinect is pretty good (Kinect Adventures), but the is Kinect Joyride if he likes driving games and my 8 year old daughter has Kinectimals which is pretty cool, you basically look after baby big cats and play games with em. If your after summit more grown up then sonic riders that is good, think the inner child in you would like that, even the new Forza Motorsport 4 is Kinect enabled but thats for older kids or me! lol
Media streaming is pretty good wirelessly connects to my PC via a bog standard SKY wireless N router and i get all my pics and videos thru Windows Media Center also streams HD movies via Zune aswell with no problems.
Did you also know with the Kinect you can talk to your Xbox and tell it what to do. Simply say Xbox and wait for the box to appear at the bottom then say Kinect. Then you can say what you see bascially just say Xbox before each command.

Just make sure you have plenty of room for Kinect.
Recommendation is 8 feet away but I'd say realistically you need at least 10 feet. Because our sitting room is set up width ways rather than length ways we can't use it at all.
Just saying....

Um, we have about 6 feet...lol
No way round it? Unless they jump onto the sofa...

I've got to agree with Adventures. It's a blast. Also, Gunstinger is pretty fun, but try the demo/trial before you buy it, it might not be your deal.

Afraid not matey.
Kinect will tell you that you are too close.
Best option is to try and find someone with one who will lend it to you for a day or two.
My kids kept banging on until I showed them that it didn't work!

We only have 6 feet and it works fine, only one player at a time tho. If you want to play 2 player then you will need more room.
I am moving soon to a house with a massive lounge so will let you know how it goes.

Is a brilliant idea in theory, if it works. Reasonably priced for an accessory too, when the TV mount for the Kinect came out they were £40 so i made one for a fiver from a mesh book end and some Velcro

Hongman, check this video out:
www.eurogamer.net/videos/egtv-asks-is-your-home-kinect-ready (http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/egtv-asks-is-your-home-kinect-ready)
The Eurogamer writers try Kinect out in their actual homes, one poor git has to stand on his couch and it still doesn't work.
We have a the lounge the wrong way for this, But if you put it so your at a angle(ours is 4 ft away from the TV and 7 ft high) you Can get 2 players no worries.

Going to go home tonight and measure up, I might get one of those range reducers anyway just in case.
The lenses got a poor review

Small is worse, mines fine for me I'm 6ft 1" but my daughter who is 8 has real trouble sometime especially when there is glare from the sun.

Oh ??
Well I bought the Nyko Zoom thing anyway. Roll on 10th Oct when I can see his face light up when he unwraps it, then we can get playing:D
Also ordered Sonic Riders and Kinectimals - 3 games should get him started for now.
I'm almost as excited as he will be :p

Well just to update.
Plugged it all in, and with my son as the controller I went through the Kinect setup with him. With his heels against the sofa he was just in the circle.
Snapped on the Zoom thing, and it gave him about another 2 feet to play with.
Started messing about with some games, but after aboiut 30 mins it kept loosing him. Took the Zoom thing off, recalibrated in-game and it seemed to work again at the same distance.
Just got to train him that Sonic copies his movements, and that he shouldnt be trying to copy Sonic's!

We have the loosing ppl problem, can be annoying especially when the kids start getting angry with it.
Moving in a couple of weeks and will have a bigger lounge so will see how we go there. Does take some getting used to i imagine more so for a young child.

Yeah, a few times I had to get him to walk away and back in to get it to see him. As a child know is NEVER still either, sometimes he did things which the Kinect recognised as a command (waving his arms in a certain way or whatever).
Really struggled with the Sonic menu though. Couldnt figure out how to move to previous/next item...just kept doing random things til it moved.
It even tracked really well with my daughter (2) running in and trying to participate at times :D
Cant wait for him to go to bed tonight so I can have a go now ;)
My son is 11.he is tracked by it ok and his girl friend is always getting good score on the just dance thing (don't try that game if you want to keep your dignity ) as long as the curtains shut.
My Mrs mates child who is 6 has problems though.
