How cool is this game but also infuriating?

Really makes you think but if you are seen you die so easily and the augmented enemies can take so many shots (unless in the head).

I am loving it just feel like throwing the controller at the screen sometimes!

Yeah, but it's a PC game at heart (even on the consoles) so just quicksave your way through it :D

I've only just fought the first boss, I'm finding it hard to keep my interest up for long, partly because I'm trying to make it through without setting off any alarms which is very hard.

The first boss, incidentally, is just as bad as they said. Even once I figured out what to do it took several more tries.

So far my favourite thing has been the Detroit city hub, it's very well done.

I made a silly video while playing, incidentally:

I know the alarms are ridiculous, I haven't got to the first boss yet, I am still on the first part where you have to infiltrate the compound and find the merc leader. I only play it for half hour or so at a time as i have young children who i wait to go to bed.

I would still be no track for having not killed anyone either, except for the fact you're given an SMG in the prologue and told to go kill people, and from what I've heard you might or might not have that counted against you for the achievement. Certainly I just non-lethal takedown most people, and tranq rifle those who are out of reach.

From what i remember in the prologue you are if you want to use force and if you want a long or short range weapon, I kill most people, just coz i can and easier than sneaking draws a lot more attention tho. I Stupidly dropped my Tranq Rifle and Tazer thingy in the Detroit city area. So now I only have really loud weapons like pistol, SMG, Sniper Rifle and RPG oh and a machine pistol.

First silencer isn't until you get to Shanghai. Oh, and since you can only carry one of each weapon, leave spares behind for later. I made dozens of trips between the police armoury/slums and the arms dealer in the abandoned gas station in Detroit to sell shotguns and combat rifles, got over 10 grand now.

Do they actually stay on the floor then, I been picking em all up coz I wasn't sure, was also wondering how do get your credits up quicker. Praxxis points could do with being more regular aswell.

metalangel

They must do, from what I recall there were four combat rifles and a stungun in the police armoury. Also the two drug dealers in the slums had guns, which stayed while I wandered around doing other stuff. One of the things the old Deus Ex was known for (not least of all because it caused huge savegames) was that it would remember where you'd left everything. I haven't tested this too hard in HR yet but yeah, they should stay where they were dropped.

Cash will cease to be an issue later on or so I'm told, but you might as well get those two Praxis points once
you get to Detroit, right? You're lucky that you're not even in the city itself yet so you can start collecting guns right away.

Oh, and another cool tip: if someone asks for a bribe for information, just pay them. Then, when nobody's looking, punch their lights out and reclaim your money

I will try that then, i take it if you collect the weapon you just get more ammo normally or you can sell you current and pick up new one.

LMAO at your last tip, that is a plan.

Just sell whatever ones you don't normally use. I have tranq rifle, 10mm and revolver as my weapons, and am carrying a sniper rifle and stungun to sell later.

LMAO at your last tip, that is a plan.

The first person I did this to was standing on the street in broad streetlight (it's nighttime), a few moments afterwards a cop wandered past and was very disturbed by it but after looking frantically around they just shrugged and carried on.

Oh, and hack everything, even if you have the password. More XP = unlocking Praxis faster.

Holy crap, the sniper rifle sold for 1350 credits! There's meant to be one somewhere on that first level, see if you can find it.

Also, if you are enjoying the dialogue system (too early to tell, perhaps) the social enhancer aug is invaluable... not only does it profile the people you're talking to so you know what buttons to push, it also has a 'pheromone release' which can get stubborn people talking again if you anger them. It even profiled Sarif for me, and I managed to win an argument with him this afternoon.

Also, you were wondering about whether stuff stays? Well, I went on the second proper mission, came back and went around the hub again, all the gang members I'd knocked out were still lying where I'd left them, so I think the answer is yes.

Just got this, ,liking it so far. I've only kept the smg, 10mm and tranq rifle, everything else i sell. i'm scooting about the first town just now, (after saving the typhoon) i've heard talk / emails of a gun supply held by punks in sewers but cant find it. just broke into dirty cops (omally) room, now got to find gun stash in drb area and pretend to be hitman for omally.....
btw kilted ginger is my xbox tag as well.

I got my sniper rifle when i killed the guard on the balcony inside the compound. Wonder what the grenade launcher i have will sell for then?!

metalangel
30-09-11, 07:59 AM
Dunno, haven't seen one of those yet. Certainly you'll get about 700 for shotguns and rifles.

I really, really wish there was a stats screen so I could know if the has counted all those guys I killed in the prologue or not.

daveyrach

When you first go into the compound where the big robotic thing is, if you run over to the raised platform and drop down beneath it, go to the vent on the far side follow it round then go straight to the end and you come out in a room and the grenade launcher is on top of a crate and is used to kill the robot thingy or just keep it and sell, takes up nearly half of the inventory tho.

Why have you got a secret store behind your tv if you cant put anything in it?

daveyrach
30-09-11, 09:50 AM
That's for when you first start out to 'stock up' you can leave things on the floor in your apartment and they will stay there.

Kilted Ginger

Just went to highland park, killed the first 5 guys, just for the hell of it. the arms dealer outside wont buy any of the weapons though so no massive credit build up??

Does he say why? Maybe you need to be further on in game first?

Kilted Ginger

no just no sell option, has a very limited buy as well, mainly ammo.

Just realised what you mean, the bloke in Highland park does not buy weapons etc, you need to sell them at the abandoned gas station in Detroit City

Things about the game:
1) The prologue DOES count towards the Pacifist achievement. It's really, really easy to sneak through it, but obviously you don't know that until it's too late...

2) While slightly less fun, if you're attempting Foxiest of Hounds, it's a LOT easier to just sneak past most enemies. You can get through most levels without having to knock anyone out, meaning absolutely no alarms, ever (except the plot-mandated ones).

3) There are tons of praxis points available. By the end of the game I was putting them into augments I'd never use. In Detroit alone there are 4 available - 2 in the LIMB clinic, 1 requiring the punch through walls augment and 1 requiring either the jump augment, L5 hacking augment, or a healthy dose of explosives on a locked door. This is before considering all the ones you can get from natural levelling up (and as noted above, hack EVERYTHING, as it will let you level up really fast. L4+5 terminals can be worth upwards of 400xp with datastore nodes considered, and that's almost 10% of a praxis by itself).

4) Money is almost useless. It's only really worth it for buying praxis points and weapon upgrades.

Received this from Zavvi yesterday for roughly a tenner. Played far too much last night and scrambled my brain a bit before bed! Loving it so far, reminds me so much of the original.

Any tips on hacking? (xbox360) I haven't figured it out yet. I just hack as quickly as possible, but no real theory behind the madness but I'm guessing there should be, considering the different types of icons? I'll google it later before anyone gets smart ;)

its an epic game! I love it.

Am only 1 trophy away from getting a Platinum trophy. Need to complete it again without setting off any alarm.

I am very tempted to download the new missions too!

You'll notice a number next to each node, and when you select it it'll you the probability of the system detecting you if you hack that node. Try and plot a route to the goal using the nodes labelled 1 and 2 as they have the lowest probability (20% and 40% by default) of you being detected.

You can hack multiple stuff at once, so you might as well go for it if you're detected or know you're going to be.

The NUKE virus you can pick up lets you instantly capture a node without being detected.

The STOP WORM lets you freeze the countdown timer once you've been detected.

The various extra nodes off on their own are for extra XP, basically to show just how l33t you are as you pwn their bawks.

EDIT: I still haven't finished the game yet, though I sat down to play it while Mrs Metal was reading her cookbooks. She got really interested by it and next thing we knew it was almost midnight, we'd both been completely absorbed. And now she DREAMS about the game, so I think it scrambled her brain too.

Marc if you wanna buy and sell stuff speak to Grayson in the gas station in the Detroit area. If am strapped for cash i'd knock a cop out and steal their assualt rifle and sell it. You get 630 credits for each gun. You can only pick one gun up at a time though.

There is a sniper rifle in the air vent above where you speak with grayson. To get it though you need a Lvl 4 hacking ability or if you have the limited edition version you could use a AUD. To get to just use the ladder next to the huge billboard outside the gas station. Then hack the door and go up the stairs. Jump through the window and there is a vent on the roof of the gas station that has a Sniper Rifle. There is also a Sniper rifle in the Hyndland park complex. Once you get in the complex he is on the level above!

Finally completed the game, was fun! Tempted to go back now and try completing it on difficult, without killing anyone or setting off any alarms. Hmm.
