Ikea do a Blackout Roller-Blind for about £20.

Be cheaper than getting REALLY heavy curtains.

Council wont do anything as far as I am aware.

There's one over the road from us that's got a shield fitted to it - no idea who put it there mind, so this info is probably worthless.

shield is what I am thinking.. have a blackout blind already .. well blackout curtains .. I like to sleep with the window open and a breeze of fresh air see so need a crack in the curtains.. maybe a full blind is the way forward.. I will call the council and see what they say

Move the light, or don't be so wet! Failing that, move your house, no one will mind if you move it five feet to the left or right! Do I have to come up with all of the sensible answers!? ;-)

Get a high viz jacket, open it up and trip the breaker inside. When they service it in a years time, do the same again. ;)

Cheshire East?

I'd consider it a result that they bothered to answer the phone!

Let us know how you get on with the council, it will be interesting to hear which departments managed to come up with an acceptable solution to a problem, the household waste department are a useless.

Good luck

Doof

Quiff think yourself lucky. We have this billboard in London and if you look closely at the left hand side you'll see how close the flats are to it.

It's fine when it has a poster like that which has a black background, but when it's white, gets stuck on the mesh feeder sheet or when we're changing the posters it's awfully bright. Something like 30, 6 foot kitchen style light bulbs in it. It always amazes me that the residents haven't cut the power to it.

Whats the easiest way of doing that?

There is one particular one that does my head in as it produces glare most evenings

I'd love to tell you but this forum and threads get picked up on Google way too easy. The official way is to see who's the board is and ask them to sort it. :)

pull the fuse or trip the breaker. Have you got a key for the cover though because if you haven't a trip to poundland/cheapy DIY place will sort you one out.

Although i prefer the airgun route but it will more likely get repaired quickly incase someone could get an electric shock off it

Buy an air-rifle, shoot the light out. When they replace it, shoot it out again. Carry on doing this until they don't bother replacing the bulbs. Worked for one of my friends.

Find the power cable, clear some space near it. Get a broom handle and use drawing pins to hold old style razor blades along the end of it. Cut into the cable with the blades until they short the pos and neutral or earth the pos out. This method worked well enough for the inmates of Colditz when they wanted to turn out the searchlights to help an escape plan, as it was difficult to detect what had caused it as the blades disintegrated and did little damage as the power failed. The mains power cables ran along the wall underneath the windows to some dorm rooms.

I read Escape from Colditz by Major Pat Reid when I was a kid. I have huge admiration for the guys who constantly tried to escape back to allied lines during the war - their ingenuity knew no bounds.
