Truly bizarre. I dont get the hype. What they expecting? Teleportation? Light speed?
The specs on the phone seem ok to me. Although a dual core phone is so last month. How long has the Motorola Atrix been out...Forget the tech and feel the hype.

I dont get the hype either, it doesnt enough new stuff or stuff that I want to use to warrant upgrading from my 3GS
Still I expect they'll sell loads due to people wanting to have the latest iphone...

Fixed Properly.
I'll be getting one because I need another iPhone. The extra CPU power is always nice to have and there's nothing wrong with updating an old model. iPhone 4 is fine as it is and I don't thing too many will upgrade because it looks the same, so nobody will notice :)
I am a lot more excited about the iOS 5 and the Cloud than the new iPhone TBH.

Likewise. My 3GS is still plenty good enough. There's no compelling reason to upgrade just yet.

my 3gs died at AR, its been replaced by the iphone4 and an iphone 4 is what I'll have for the next 24months.
I fricking love my apple but I've no desire to jump on the latest handset - although I am a little smug now that I didnt wait for the iphone5 or 4s as its turned out to be.
To me this just says that the iphone5 must have something awsome on it, something they werent quite ready to release but having already failed to unveil something in they're normal July slot they felt a lot of pressure to produce something and so sorted this out, it would explain why its barely any different to the ip4 after a supposed 18months of development.

Pretty much echo all sentiments there, I'll end up with one as I have the keys to the corporate O2 account so will pass mine down but I'm more excited about the iOS, still not sure about the cloud just yet.
I don't reckon we will see an iPhone 5 this side of next summer, although one bit that does make me wonder is the cases for the supposed "5" before the event, a couple of different places ended up with a similar shaped device imprint, must be in prototype by now then.
But releasing it soon would undermine the sales of the 4S. Was surprised there weren't really any accessories released yesterday or anything else of note to talk about to try and big up the 4S. Maybe the Jobsian shoes are still a little too big.

My guess is that they've been focusing on the iOS more with all these extra features. Whatever they develop, it's going to be inside the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 but at the moment, like most have said, there is no need to upgrade the handset.
It makes sense for them to mass produce only one chip, the A5, since most of the components are now shared between the tablet and the phone and they are both on great demand.
IMO this wasn't even planned as a new product lunch but they took the opportunity to make some extra cash from those desperate to have the latest model while introducing the new iOS and iCloud.
I just upgraded from my iPhone 3G to an iPhone 4G.
I use mine for everything... Maps, banking, browsing the internet etc
I couldn't be bothered waiting for the 4GS, but the 4G is a good step up from the 3G.
The 3G was slow at everything because it just wasn't capable of running the updated software.
No for me at least, the GPs tracking on MTB apps works perfect. Maps open straight away. The internet is loads faster... and as I work away LOADS the Facetime option for other Iphone users is brilliant.

Had GPS on my Android phones forever, MyTracks sounds a lot like your MTB app, Google Maps is good, no problems with the Internet and I had Video Calling on my Nokia N95 5 years ago and that was over 3G, not limited to WiFi only.
But then I forgot, none of that happened, and there were no mobile phones before Apple invented the iPhone...
Had GPS on my Android phones forever.
Don't belive you :P

I honestly believed that until about two months ago when I got rid of my Desire for an iPhone 4. Now don't get me wrong, I am not going to rush out and but a 4S and I personally think they are just doing this to boost sales while they figure out their next move with the 5.
My HTC did everything my iPhone does, more infact, I could wirelessly sync my files etc etc and can't do that with the 4 (altho believe you can with the new model). However, the iPhone just does what it does better and easier. The user interface is so much nicer. The feel of the touch screen and the quality of it is a million times better and it doesn't get roasting hot if you use GPS or anything for any length of time (which is an extremely common problem with HTC phones).
I don't buy them because they are Apple or because they are the cool thing to have. I look into what phone I would like and I play with them and then I base my decision on that. I really dislike this "I hate Apple" or "I hate Android" mindset because at the end of the day, iOS and Android are both extremely good OS.

Hardware wise i like the iphone 4 (when jailbroken)
But, starting at £500 bargain......
Never in a million years would i pay £500 for a phone personally. Id have to then get insurance, which is more money. I don't do contracts as it always ends up more expensive than just using a giffgaff sim (For me)

Odd to make a big deal of a phone when your rivals had the same out a year ago.
I am very surprised how ordinary the phone is and certainly isn't a must have.
For Apple fans only as if you really wanted dual core then you would have one already.

Apple are very good at telling people what features they want and need.
7 x graphics performance whats the point most apps are crap and gaming doesn't work well with a touch/tilt device, if you want games get an Xperia play, i have hundreds of ps1 and nintendo games running on emulators for free.
I cant see why people pay 5 quid on a game/app from itunes that will last 15 mins and then never get used, Ive put in 60 hours on Final Fantasy 7 and probably the same again on Gran Turismo.
And if your not into games the better cpu and gpu isn't going to help you for sending txt's or browsing the web, its like someone spending 2k on a gaming pc but only use it for office work, yeah sure you have great numbers but you aint going to use the power and you were daft enough to pay for it.
Then they say the camera is better, but buying a new phone for 600quid is a bit of a stupid idea to take better photos, id just buy a decent point and shoot for half the price. I must add my Xperia play takes stunning pictures.
Notification in IOS5, how long has android done that for?
Lets just say the 4gs isn't going to tempt me away from my android.

This is why iphones are good, and they are every body knows it, I just didn't want to pay 3-4 hundred quid up front for a phone, so got the galaxy 2 for free :smt045
iOS doesn't run on Android devices so why all this passion for trashing the iPhone? We all made a choice and are proud of it. Those unhappy few, have alway the opportunity to switch sides and some of the happily do so. But please, stop crying out loud like babies that your choice is better for everyone because is not.
This update was about lunching the FREE iOS 5 update and FREE iCloud service for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. It also brought a refreshed iPhone 4 with a faster CPU and an improved camera as a bonus for the same price as the old one (what's wrong with that?!!?).

My 3GS was fast when I got it. It's pathetically slow now with the new software. Press the camera app and it takes at least 10 seconds before it shows anything. I use google maps a lot for directions and just trying to select the text box to type in a new address takes an age. It does my head in now. I can actually type faster than it can show the letters sometimes.
So what's to stop the same thing happening with the new iphone4S when they bring out the new software for the 6S or whatever?

Here are several features that no phone manufacturer have yet managed to invent - but when they do I will consider trading in my trusty Nokia X6.
1) The ability to stay on top of all the other cr@p in my big handbag and not sink to the bottom under the half eaten Worthers Originals
2) A battery that lasts a month without requiring recharging rather than 12 hours
3) A camera function that makes me look like Angelina Jolie instead of Kathy Burke in every photo it takes of me
4) A taser app that I can use to stun the other passengers on the train who are talking loudly about inane rubbish or are having a long text conversation with their text tone on the most irritating one they could find
5) A sensor that answers calls to people I don't want to speak to with a special answerphone message telling them to $od off and never bother me again
Now Apple - you haven't managed any of that have you?
Yet another dissapointing product launch from Apple sold out before it's release.
